    Nice Champion 203 ##'s??

    http://tricities.craigslist.or....html

Here is a nice looking Champ 203, i was lookin for a 202 but this one is very nice.

I was wondering about the ##'s with the 250xb.

I was thinking 72-75 tourny loaded?? I would love to get my paws on a 202 with a 250on her. I will probably have to settle with a 225 though.

    Would i be happy with a 203 with a 250?? Or should i keep lookin for a 202??

I would beware, I personally don't think it will run 82 with a light load, maybe 78 and 75 with a fishing load. People try to sell boats with speed which most people don't care about some do and some don't, I would say just beware, merc 250 pro XB's are runners and they like gas , not as bad as a carbed model. Champ 203 is and awesome boat all around but its heavy I just don't think you'll get 82 with a light load.....

As everyone else said the XB loves gas. But remember that isn't regular octane. My cousin has a 202 with a 250 XB and he was told he had to run premium in it. OUCH!!!

Merc 250XB was built by Mercury Racing Division. All motors coming out of that side of the shop are rated conservatively. Probably a 280-290 HP motor when new. Nothing like the sound of a 250XB (or 300X) as you wait for blast off in the morning....almost worth the cost of the premium gas. It takes fuel to make power and the XB's are known for drinking it in large quantities.

As for the speed - I think its possible. I've run mine up to 79.4 with a very light load. I believe the Merc XB to have another 25-30 hp over my 250 HPDI. My top speed was run with about 10 gallons of gas and nothing but me and safety gear in the boat (trolling motor, batteries and windshields WERE in place).

I can't imagine that you would be able to notice the difference in the 202 and 203 unless you spend a lot of time running really rough water, then the 203 is going to be a little wetter.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Nice Champion 203 ##'s?? (Cheatham200)

I have a 1996 202 with a 2000 250XB. With a 27 trophy at 2.25 below the pad I can get 80 on cool mornings (gps). But on an average day with me and my partner, all of our gear and a full (33 gal) tank of gas 76-77 is not a problem. It does seem to be temperature sensitive, in the summer I have to drop to a 26 trophy to turn the rpms. Yes, the XB loves the high test, but I love the hot rod stuff and that sound gets me going at blast off.

77 with a load is pretty easy to get. Nothing like an XB to find out what your potential is.
