Thoughts on 190SX for fishing and family boat

I have posted a few questions about fish/skis before and have had great feedback from the Champion crowd. I am replacing a BassCat with a fish/ski - that much has been determined by the boss (wife). Like everyone else, I am looking for a model that is more fish than ski. I like what I have seen from the 190 SX pictures I have found on line. I would appreciate any feedback on this model and its functionality as fishing and cruising boat for family of four. Also, when did Champion stop producing this model and are there any others I can consider. I have roughly 22'6" of storage available. I am not really interested in the current fish/ski model - looks like it is heavily slanted to cruising/skiing.

    Thanks in advance.

The 190 and 21 SXs are terrific fishing/family boats!!! Got some folks who will chime in about theirs, but I can't see you going wrong with one!!!!!

I have an "05 21SX and use it to fish out of 99% of the time and got it for those times when the wife and my dauhter want to go. These are great fishing boats and you cannot go wrong with a Champ. Plus, the most comfortable and quickest fish/ski I've ever been in. Go for it. [IMG]/IMG]

Wow.. Two in the same area.. I saw the first one listed during my hunt.

Why do boat appear to be priced lower in the south? Is it because up here they are stored in the winter?

Here's a pic of mine. Bought it new in Sept. 1996. 190SX - 200 EFI. Love the boat. E-mail me with any specific questions you might have.

I bought my '03 21SX in '08 with about 50 hours on its 225 Evinrude. My research told me that it was the most fishable Fish & Ski made. It has the power, accomodations & room to do both very well, looks really nice and its console arrangement makes it warm and dry on those cold winter mornings. The 21 will do a little better than the 190 on big water and gives you more room, but you absolutely can't go wrong with this choice.

I'm not sure you are going to fit a 21 in a 22' 6" spot unless you can angle it pretty wide. I have a 22' deep garage and until I sold my Harley's a 187 Champion just fit straight back by a hair. Now that the bikes are gone I have lots of room to angle a boat but I'd have to move the boat to get anything else out of the garage, or put the boat in and move mowers, etc... to get the boat out. I am moving yet again so I am glad I have a boat that only takes 20' straight back so I don't have to worry so much about the garage again.

I had a 181SX for four years while my son was in Jr high and most of high school. I custom ordered it with more than the normal F/S stuff IE 6 ga wiring, solid mt TM, pro air livewell etc... Sure a few guys laughed at me on tournament day, then again I made it to the National TOC out of that F/S back in the old AR days. IMO the 181 and it's big brother the 190 are a couple of the best compromise F/S boats ever made. IMO The 21 is more ski than fish.

Thanks for all the responses. I do not know the length on trailer of an SX190, hope it will fit in 22'6" straight back. Does anyone know what year Champion quit making this model?

Shoot me an IM this evening and I will check my brochures for length on trailer as well as years built...

I am in office now...brochures are home...

I know several folks have converted their trailer to a folding tongue...that may help you with space.

Re: Thoughts on 190SX for fishing and family boat (robinsw1)

One of the better choices on the market for a fishing oriented fish-n-ski... I had a 181SX for years and it was awesome. The 190SX ought to be just fine. If you shop for a while you might see a wide range of trim levels on them... I purchased mine as a custom with Elite package. Most of the others that I have seen in showrooms have been ordered much more stripped down - as in no carpet inside many of the storage compartments, no removable TM mount, no ski pole, no onboard charger, no rear grab rails, etc.

Not to stir the pot, mind you, but my latest boat is an Allison XB2003. It's a slightly different animal mind you, but definitely falls under the realm of fish-n-ski with excellent wind protection, more storage than the Champs, but again - its a little different animal. If you expect to use a bimini top however, stick with the Champion. Good Luck!

Great boat, that Allison XB2003, a little lacking in fuel capacity though I'm sure it runs like a bat out of...

I'm seriously considering a 21SX for my next boat. Front deck looks like the largest one available in a fish and ski. Plus a champion hull is a huge plus. Can you guys that own 21SX's post pictures of your boats inside and out. Thanks a million.

I'll get you some pics inside and out of my 2005 21SX Saturday. I don't know if they have changed since then. But yea, the deck is aircraft carrier large for a fish and ski.

Below are some pics of my 07' 21SX. I added a 'killer sound system' to it with a 650 watt amp, 4 marine speakers, and a 10" subwoofer. I absolutely love the boat! It handles so smoothly and is well mannered. I also included some pics of the guages and roostertail during a prop testing run.

Thanks Lea. I'm not a serious fisherman...which might explain the extreme stereo system, but my wife and I and a few friends enjoy boating in general. The 21SX was the best choice for us. The bimini top and windshield offer the comfort and big Yammy does the rest. We love it.
