    RT 188 Prop Set Up?

I know that this has been beat to death but...

2013 188 with 115 etec. Motor in second hole from top running a Solas 13 7/8 x 19. I'm hitting my rev limiter @ about 6200 rpm's. Called Ranger and they recommend a 13 7/8 x 21 Viper. I've had one on order now for about 6 weeks but wanted to get some reel on the water advice.

Love the boat, dual console, up graded to the 4trex 24 volt trolling motor with 3 bank charger. The motor, not so much. My dealer has addressed a cranking problem but still don't think it's right. He called and wants to do a "update"? Have not had a chance to get it back to the dealership but will advise when I do.

Need some input on my prop dilemma.

I have a rt 188 on order with the 115 etec, was told it came with a 6year warranty. I take it you don't care much for your Evinrude?

Well I want to like it, I mean it's left me stranded THREE times. The first time it was linkage issues, fixed. Then my main breaker was bad, no problem fixed it. Then it won't start, back to the shop. They said it needs a new battery, ok got it. Still won't start like it should. I mean come on! Anyway I've friends with other brands and they have trouble too. I've got 5 yrs of warranty so it's not cost me any money and it's not that far to the dealership it's just aggregating ya know.

what size battery do you have ? mine came with a group 24 interestate. at first it seemed ok and then after a couple outings it didnt want to fire on the first turn of the key. got looking into the cranking requirements and it was too small. replaced it with a sears pm1. as for props ive only tried two stainless props. a raker and powertech ost3. i like the ost3 a little better for me. the raker was great solo and not bad with an extra person. for me and what i do the ost3 is a little better. handles better and carries a load better.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Hopefully you can get the bugs worked out. Idk if the etecs are like the optimax engines but they take a healthy amount of juice for starting. 1000 cca is recommended 800 being the minimum. That Pm1 04ctd posted is a beast of a battery. Interesting yours is hitting the limiter so easiky with a 19p prop. The etecs have a little higher gear an 18p seemed to be common on this setup. You said second mounting hole but thats not on a setback plate is it?

No sir, bolted to the transom. So a 21 seems way to big? Or am I even in the ballpark?

Gonna look at my battery too so I can give y'all exact info.

i feel bad you are having this issues, it kind of sucks.. i have not have a problem with my etec since i bought it. just a minor gas issue... my motor is working fine after that and starting at the first time. i have had it on 35 F weather and it starts fine.

i have an aluminum prop and is mounted all the way down.... i know i could improve the setup but so far i am gonna wait until i hear some good results... and your viper testing would be interesting.. keep us posted

Will do. I'm beginning to think that I don't have the right battery.

With that gearing A 21p is a bit big IMO. Seeing as how 04cts runs a 20p prop on his setup with a 6" jack plate. Does your 19p actually activate the engines rev limiter and power down or give an audible alarm or is it just your tach reading that 6200? Analog tachs are notoriously innaccurate.

I've had my tach calibrated on a laptop for what that's worth. But yes it powers down. I'm taking it in today to have the update and will discuss my issues and report back.
