I have a 6" on my 190 with a merc 200
Thanks Jerkbait....![]()
6" will work with current steering cables, if you have hydraulic and that's not an issue the 8" will be a smidge better.

you can't go wrong with an R&R Jackplate
Can't go wrong with a Rapid Jack either Craig.![]()
Especially with a Champ offset.
My friend is thinking to get a 8" and change cables, I let you know guys what happend.......
also if somebody have a 8" cheap, let me know, my friend is in the market for one........![]()
There's a bold statement of confusion...
Trade out steering cables is at best a $230 job, those are the cheapest cables, plus the three hours of sweat to put them in, and then turn around and think "cheap" jackplate and get stuck with something horrible like a rite hite...for *maybe* a half mph.

Best thing that could do would be to try and hold down a brush pile

Pat them NFB cables ain't cheap anymore pushing $400. for 14'ers. Way cheaper to convert to Hydraulic and be done with it.
I wasn't even thinking about NFB cables, just cheapies....
As far as a rite hite plate goes, only thing lower that that pos is a detweiler.

Unless you are going to cut another hole in the back of the cap, I fail to see how longer cables will help. You will still have steering cables making a hard right turn right off of the starboard side of the engine. That doesn't work. Not well, anyway.
