Jordi that is just a guess,, Pat knows the Merc formula.![]()
I just sold my 1990 184 Elete with Merc 2.5 power head anc CLC lower unit
ran a 25 tempest the best.,,26 trophy was okay but slow out of hole and lower top end. She was " Tuned up a Bit" maybe 190 hp.

My best results were with the 25M Yamaha wheel, little less diameter and rake than a tempest, and twists up quicker. Tempest is the ticket on a 3.0 motor, but your 2.4 needs a little more help.

Fred, Charles and Pat, thank you very much for the answer, I posted later what I got finally, I'm in the proccess to put my 6" jackplate and the Hyd Stering Sys then I'm going to change the prop, let see what can found out there.....![]()
How about an old Tempest A45 25P?![]()
Pat,
I have some responses about the 25M Yamaha, but both ask me if this prop is not a litle heavy for my 175 mercury black max, so, can I buy this prop for my boat no problem???

It's been a good setup for me, unless you're really over loading.

I run a Yamaha Pro on my 184 with a 150 EFI. With a little cup in the prop it has been my best match. I know it is a long way from you but. John at Johns Hot Props in Ozark Missouri really did me right.
Just my opinion,
Mark
Pat, I put the jackplate last weekend and I tested , the boat was slow, ( 42 GPS)
at 5200 and 22 psi, before I can't say but i feel like is not got all the power, going to check the elevation to be sure I start at 3.5 in the pad......![]()
I think you should be running 57500 or 58000 at least. That is what they told me. I am running 3.25 below pad and running 58500 right now with the water and air temp cold.
If you are talking rpms, I sure hope you have accidently added an extra 0 to those numbers!!!!![]()

Ups!!!! Lea maybe thts why Is so slow
I goingto play a little bet with the high and I'm In the procces to get the 2 yamaha next week so let see what happens .![]()

You may be too far in the water for that hull. My 184 ran best with a Tempest, but I had a modded 200EFI and it was a 2.5 liter. I ran 6500 rpm with an A45 Tempest 25p with quite a bit of cup on the tips. I ran about 2-1/2" below the pad, and my best was 77 mph on GPS with a light load by myself in about 1 foot of chop. It was a stressful boat to drive that fast, but I imagine solid mounts and some work on the steering pivot would have helped tremendously. I'm taking care of those things first on my new project.
Also, if you are going to run that high, you will have to plug the top 4 water intake holes on each side of the lower unit. I tried nose coned lower units with low water pickups, but they reduce bow lift which is everything on your Champ. I never had problems with cooling, but you should be careful of idling through thick vegetation.
Good luck with it. Driving a well setup 184 (especially with too much power) is almost as much fun as catching a 10# bass!
