    recessed pedal?

I recently had a recessed trolling motor pedal tray installed on my 1999 193elite and noticed there was nothing done except the hole being cut and tray screwed in place. Do I need to seal the screw holes or the tray itself? Thanks ahead of time, Darin

    Re: recessed pedal? (dvs-2)

Lots of people say to seal it. My tray is metal and it had some putty type weatherstripping around the perimeter. I'm not sure what the correct answer is. I keep my boat in the garage but I have been out all day in pouring rain. I currently don't have mine intentionally waterproofed because I remove it from time to time as it is a great access opening when working or servicing items in the front deck area.

Seal it. Use some sort of resin on all the bare wood. I have a soft spot in the front deck of the 99 203 I just bought where the wood has rotted due to a footpedal tray. Make damn sure all wood is sealed with something hard and waterproof, and I'd use some 3m 4200 on all the screws. Wood and water is bad! I have a repair job to do on my 203 because they thought silicone caulking would be enough!!!!

What do you seal the wood with??? Gotta go back and seal mine. I think I just painted the edges, but prob. need something better.

I used West Systems 2 part epoxy that came in a premix packet. I painted a few coats on with a foam 1" brush. It dried hard as a rock and should last forever. While I was at it, I took a small syringe and filled in some old screw holes in the deck.

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with West Systems epoxy. Where do you get it? Is it like the Devcon quick dry epoxy that comes in two attached plungers?

No, it's available at boating stores like West Marine, although I don't belive the product is related to the store.

Also, I mis-spoke earlier. There are two packets (equal amounts) that you mix together. The small kit would be plenty to seal the cut out.
