    The end is near

It was a balmy 52 degrees with 20 MPH wind this eve. First thing my wife said: So when is that boat going into storage?

You see the boat takes up the garage and I usually put it away in Nov. You folks down south are lucky that you don't have to tolerate our crap weather we have in the Midwest.

Not looking forward to months and months of solitary confinement.

I agree BB... them down south folks got it made as far as the fishing goes! My old girl hasn't left the garage in 3 weeks, and the next time she does, it will be to get winterized Last year, over xmas break, I took the cover off to sit in it for a few minutes to make me feel better.... it worked!

Gee I know what you mean. We don't get it quite that bad here but the water does get hard. I've decided that for next year it's fun fishing only, no TXs .Reason is so I can speed up my move farther south to the Ozarks.. Can't wait!

Re: The end is near (dewey)

Hey, it wasn't always this bad. Back in the day when I was a freshmen and JV basketball coach, I ice fished all winter long. Nothing better than pan fish through the ice on ice fishing rods with 2lb test, and an occasional tip up flag with a big ol largemouth or pike on the hook. Since sliding over 12 inches on the bench, I have not cut a single hole in the ice... in fact, is there anyone on here who wants to buy some tip ups????!!!! I don't see me getting out any time soon.

I don't know how you guys handle it. If I go more than 2 weeks without a fishing trip I get the shakes. We get about 2 weeks of weather cold enough to slow the bite but other than that its a go here.

Thats why I moved from Kansas to Texas.

I did do more hunting and trapping when living in Kansas (winter).

    But would rather be fishing.

There aren't many trips left but I'm not giving up yet. Saturday here is supposed to be a low of 31 and a high of 48. I'm going out........with layers on but I'm going. Hope to get out a couple more times after that too.

Re: The end is near (08 198 Champ)

I usually fish until the end of October. Actually some of my biggest fish have come in October. The problem I am having now is the lakes are starting to turn over and the fishing gets pretty bad. I was out earlier this week and the water was in the low 50's. This time of year I start fishing shallow dark bottom lakes to fix that.

My bow hunting the last few years has changed my fishing habits though.

Re: The end is near (Bassin08)

I worked a welding job in Hankinson ND 2 years ago in Jan-Apr and the water was just starting to thaw out when I left. I woundered why anyone would live that far north. When I saw the first SUV parked in the middle of a pond I knew I was way to far from home. hehehe

Sounds like BC is out then. I was hoping to throw some cranks yet this year but that might not happen. Sounds like a trip to Fox may be in order.....

Re: The end is near (bassin butch)

yep, I'm afraid I can feel it too! Every year we struggle to put the boats up as late as possible and it usually ends up being 1st week of november. They are calling for 39 and rain/snow on saturday so I doubt I will make it out then! Hopefully som of these weekends warm up between now and thanksgiving!

As a side note, Nov 5th of 2008 was the most unbeievable day of fishg I have ever had. We had 116 largemtouth between us and we figure 40 were keepers. The water was 44 degrees after 3 days of 60 and sun. I followed that up 2 days later with 38 by myself. 3 days later I needed ice skates. oh well, looks like the post count for BBC is on its way up!

Re: The end is near (FlukenLizard)

Only one positive guys: If you buy a used boat get one up north. Most of our lakes would be ponds in your neck of the woods. Boats are in storage much of the time, and when used not beat up on giant reservoirs.

Oh yes: can it get any better than sitting a pale with a 3 ft jig pole jigging for gills?

Answer: Our weather sucks and I cant wait to move down south.

PS my buddy in NC said:

Two types of Yankee's exist Butch the regular run of the mill and the dam Yankees .

Reg type just vacations then leaves the other stays. Anyway he said I would fit right in and that I should move down ASAP southern boys would accept me in no time.
    Don't know if that's a compliment?
