    Converted seat post

I had grown to hate the snap-lock type Champion 1.77 seat post in my 2001 Champ. I went to a local marina and for 10.00 bought a 1.77 adaptor that inserts in the hole and bought some Swivel-eze adjustable pro-poles {same as used by Bass Cat} with the adjustable pole, seat base, and adaptor I spent 100.00. Well worth the change over~~makes removal super easy. Anyone want to see pics let me know.

What is the draw back , by removing the snap locks from your seats. The reason why i ask is , I removed them on my first Champ now my newer one with the same results. I have been in some pretty choppy conditions and the seats never move. I just didn't really see the advantage of having them locked in place.

I don't think James is talking about Taper Lock, Chris. That type was in my 1990 Champ (hated them, too). Not exactly sure what the adaptor looks like.

James, did it convert the 1.77 to a pin type base? Got any pictures?

I have not removed the snap locks from my pedestals, Larry...but I do agree with you, and try to install mine so the lock is not lined up with the place in the base.

I used a converter simular to BPS part # 38-533-036-60, except the converter I use has a lip on the top side so it can be removed easy if you want to go back to the factory post. I'm taking pics today to send.

    Re: Converted seat post (Lea)

Ok, I'm in the same boat!!lol I have the same pedestals-snap lock on my 99' 203. I was getting ready to get another swivel ezee pole so I could have a pro seat for the front and back. I have one of those plastic inserts that converts it to the other type of swivel ezee pole. So what's the advantage? I pulled the plastic insert out because I figured I would have to do the same to the back deck and that required me buying two plastic inserts and two new pedestals. I'm curious because my front pro pedestal wobbles and if this eliminates that, I'm all over it!!!

    Re: Converted seat post (Lea)

Thanks, Lea. I have the converter part. I thinking he's using the seat post with the thin (perhaps 1/2" to 3/4") pole insert. Is it the one that has the threads on it? Do you think this will eliminate the wiggle on my current post? Thanks

    Re: Converted seat post (schillster1)

Yes, I suspect James is referring to the pin type. I don't know if the converter takes threaded, or unthreaded pin posts. No way for me to tell if this will cure your "wobblies". Are you saying your post wiggles when it is locked into place?

Yes, it wiggles when locked into place. I'm not sure if the base is slightly loose or just the fit. I'm thinking it's the fit.

    Re: Converted seat post (schillster1)

You should be able to tell which. Put your hand around the bottom of the pedestal firm against the carpet and wiggle the pedestal.

I have heard of instances with pin typedestals getting a tiny bit loose if you always trailer with them in place, but I have not heard this about the snap-lock type...

    Re: Converted seat post (Lea)

So why do the stock 1.77's seem to close up? I grinded my pole for the front deck to fit, OK. I went to the back deck, and it's even worse. I'm thinking if I grind that much off, it may snap under heavy load.
