    95 202 question

I will throw things under the console every once in awhile (hat, water bottle, sunscreen, etc). The other day I was looking for some flourocarbon that I had tossed under there before running up the lake. I couldn't find it anywhere. As it turns out it had slipped into a space between the inside of the hull and the side of the seat. This space goes all the way back behind the live wells. I took off a screw port in the battery/gas tank compartment and found all kinds of things that had found there way into that space, most of it from the previuos owner.

Is this the way the boat was designed or was there something there originally that stopped things from falling back there? I'm going to stuff some foam or something into the space to keep it from happening again but was just wondering if this is just the way it was built. On the drivers side it is the space that has the "Open/close" push/pull valve for the livewell.

yep, my '97 202 does also, stays dry in there so i put rain gear back in next to the passenger side and dock lines next to me....just a little more room in an already roomy boat if you ever want to get something from your dash back to the batteries that access hole is really handy!

LOL, just check for the cat before you close it off, that's my cats favorite hang out spot, I always worry I'm gonna look in my mirror and see her getting ready to jump out at 65...
Like the one guy said, sorta works for storage, I keep my throw cushion on the passenger side, and the drivers side I got such a mess of wires nothing would fit thru...

Storage it is then! It was amazing how much stuff I pulled out of there. Years and years of water bottles, aluminum cans, stuff I couldn't recognize, and my flouro. Oh, and some marshmellow trout bait probably from 1995. Good looking stuff. Probably smelled good too :-)

If I understand you correctly my 04 187 has the same type space. For a short while I used the passender side space to store the preserver cushion. I started to think that maybe that was intentional space with a purpose of ventilation in the interest of safety. I took the preserver cushion out. Does anyone have the opinion that this space is designed to serve as ventilation for the back bilge area?

Good question, maybe maybe not, there's a thin bulkhead divider on my 202, just very small area for hose's and wiring on the bottom you can't even see, I used to keep the cushion in the locker until the USCG aux guys did a courtesy inspection and told me it had to be readily accessible.

Yea, that is definitely an issue, I like to put mine n the center storage on the front deck with the loop strap hanging out. I've been told by others that doesn't qualify as readily accessible. Since my center storage doesn't have latches I can pull it out rather easly and it works good for me. I just hope I don't get a ticket, or worse yet have to use it.
