    2001 206 dcx handling and setup ??

Well its taken 4 months but I think im close.
225 efi 23 tempest plus 11" set back and motor set at 3 1/2" below pad.
    67 gps at rev limiter.
This is my first Champion after years of owning Ranger's and I can tell you WHAT A RIDE!!!!!
Handling is quit a bit different as well.
I have noticed that when coming off the throttle at wot that the back of the boat wants to scoot to the right. I assume that this is because of prop torque or am I doing something wrong??? Also when crusing around 3000 to 4000 rpms the boat is very sensitive to trim angles. EZ to cavitate prop. The place I trade just got in a tempest plus 25 that I intend to try Wednesday but I was wondering if the 25 will have as much lift as the 23 sense getting the nose of this boat up is so important.
Any thoughts. Have any of you tried the new Fury props????
    Thanks,
    Kent

    11" setback? Most are 8 or 10.

I certainly would try the 25P. If you are hitting the limiter with the 23, you might want to go up a size, or try a 4 blade. When you come off throttle are you just "slamming on the brakes" or are you slowing a tad more gradually. If you suddenly slow and the nose drops quickly, that might make it feel like the scoot you describe...the bow could be catching and it might feel like the tail is scooting.

Others who know more than I will chime in shortly.

I highly doubt you have an 11" setback. My 201 206 Elite came with an 8" Slidemaster which is exactly what the 2001 Catalog states. I agree with Lea regarding the prop. I have a 25P Trophy Plus 4 blade and do not experience any of the issues with cavitation, trim, or mishandling when coming off of plane. The four blade prop feels like you are locked on the water and is very responsive. I also have a 25 T1 Vmax prop but the feel is much looser without a significant gain in speed. You should have no problem with lift when going to a 25.

I measured the set back at 11". Its a detwieler hydr. that looks like it has extention wings. Anyway it measures 11" from transome to motor plate. I ran a 25 trophy before this 23 and it was quite abit slower. Maybe just that prop.
What type of top end do you get with your trophy??
On my way to try the 25 and I'll get back.
    Thanks,
    Kent

A 25 Trophy might be too much. A 25 Tempest plus might be the ticket. As a general rule, a 4 blade prop should be one pitch smaller than a 3 blade one.

25 Tempest should be the right wheel. Trophy is a dog on that hull.

    Re: (pmgoffjr)

    Thanks,
I ran a 25 tempest plus yesterday and would push the boat 64 gps at 5400 no trim left 1/4 tank of fuel and light boat no water in live wells.
23 tempest 67 gps at 5800 same setup. I'm thinking that once I put another fisherman plus tackle and live wells full that this will add at least another 400lbs to the boat along with extra fuel and that the 23 would be more suitable. Am I thinking correctly???? Should I be looking of a 24 to try???
    thanks,
    Kent
