    trailer bearings

    gonna replace bearings in trailer, and need to know what i need.got a good mechanic going to show me how to do it, he said to bring the stuff over and i can watch and learn. what do i need to buy? they sell a bearing kit at cabelas with either a 1" or 1 and 1/16". what size do i need. it is a 2004 single axle without brakes carrying a 187. thanks for the help

    Do yourself a favor and steer away from cheap bearings. Try to buy SKF or Timken bearings and a double lip seal, otherwise your rig is susceptible to premature bearing failure. I can't answer the question regarding size, but don't skimp on the quality. The 'made in China' versions are short on durability and life!

    I pounded my bearings and races out. Got the # off of the edges. Believe I replaced with Timkens. You'll also need an inner grease seal.

    I know in 04 that disc brakes were an option, but are you certain you don't have surge brakes?
