How do you do a leakdown test, step by step?

The best way I can think to answer this question is.....Buy a leak down tester and follow the directions.

I was under the impression that you pressurized each cylinder with the piston in a certain position, and see how long it holds pressure. I wasnt aware that you had to buy a kit. What does this kit consist of?
