? on trim vs rpm vs speed

Yesterday I went fishing with my 198 with 225 hpdi turning a 24 fury. The boat was loaded with 3/4 gas, 400# worth of anglers all gear and live wells full. I was able to turn the fury to 5900rpms doing 69.4 at full trim. I like to cruise at about 55 mph. I noticed at about 90% trim the engine needed to turn the 5000 rpms. If I went down to 80% trim I could get 55-56 at 4800 rpms but needed to advance the hot foot. My question is it better to have less slip at the 80% trim or let the engine turn the 5000 rpms with more slip. BTW, boat felt better at the 80% trim running the rpms but then again it may all be in my head
