Have a Champ in the family now

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be scanning this forum as well now. My dad just bought a 95 202 dual console with a Johnny venom 200 on it. I told him he could use mine but he wanted his own. Seems like a stable boat I was able to take it out for a bit. He bought the boat without driving it or a lake test. I told him he was taking a huge gamble but so far things seem to be alright. The motor is running rich at idle, the livewell valve doesn't seem to work and I can't get full rpm's out of the motor. All these things are things that I can take care of pretty easily with a bit of time. I will post pictures later this week after I give it a good polish and wax.

Billy, I'm guessing you have that rig dialed in. What's your prop shaft height. I know his is way to low right now. I was only able to turn 5200 rpms at 53mph and had almost 30 psi on the gauge. Anything else that's unique to this style that I should know. It's got a 24 original raker on it now. I have a the same prop on my 201 but it's been b&b by croxton. Thought about putting it on his and seeing if I could get that extra rpms.

Your dad is blessed to have a son who will detail the boat for him. Way to go. I agree you need another 300 or so rpms. I think that motor is probably a dependable workhorse.

I ran a 200 Evinrude for many years on my 202. I liked a 24 Tempest plus the best. A good 24 raker runs well too. It would run 66-67 with 2 guys. You need to get the rpm up to 5900. I would check to make sure you are getting wot and also check fuel lines and filters. Probably needs a decarb and new plugs too. Also, you need to check the throttle arm where it hits the carb linkage- there is a plastic roller that deteriorates over time. I would probably have the raker you have now balanced and blueprinted. I always had a lot of water pressure as well, over 30 at times. Does it have a jack plate?

Ok here's some pics. This has not been polished yet or cleaned up. Just got it home. I have a few questions as far as what all the toggle switches are, is it considered an elite? It has the stainless passenger grab bar. She should clean up nice. It appears that it had transom work as there is black vinyl over the transom and in the splash well.

It appears to be an Elite...but that's not taking away from non-Elites. The only difference is in add-ons. Like what electronics, etc. Definitely the same hull, topcap, etc.

Looks like a really sharp boat...
