Speaker placement on my Fishunter 190

I didn't do anything last year because I didn't think mumma would care that much. Buuuut... it looks like we gotta have better tunes in the boat so I am seriously looking at upgrading and adding a couple of speakers. I plan to put in a new deck so I can hook up the ipod for her. That is currently under the glove box and if I had a remote, it would be okay (it's tough to see and such). Then, my current speakers on down under the consoles where your feet go... Can't hear them at all in the front without blasting it... which I don't/won't do. They don't sound too good there I don't think. I was thinking of putting two 6x9 speakers in the sides just ahead of the consoles.... bad idea? Doable? any thoughts... I really want to put something in "permanently" rather than "portable." I'd love to hear/see some ideas...

Re: Speaker placement on my Fishunter 190 (Derwood)

I don't have speakers, nor will I be putting any. I just like the sound of nothing when I'm fishing. That's just me, but if I were to put them it would be somewhere in the area your talking about. I saw a fishunter with a box/step build-in between the two consoles. Think of stepping up right where the consoles start. This guy had a lid on it for storage and put the same carpet to match. In that box facing back would be a good spot.
I think the area your talking about meets the inside corner of the rod boxes. If you look in the boxes it comes to a point and is not angled like the outside is. If you cut there you will hit that corner and have a mess to deal with. Now you may be able to put 2 smaller speakers in the middle box facing back. The storage box would act like a speaker box. Louder and better sound.
Another option would be to install them in the back compartment doors facing front of boat. You would just have to leave enough speaker wire for opening those door to access the batteries and such. Again that storage area would help with sound. The good thing about that area is if you want to remove/replace the speaker, worst cast, you just have to replace the doors. Easy and cheap. Not like putting holes in the fiberglass.
I'm just thinking out loud here.

Re: Speaker placement on my Fishunter 190 (LAChamp)

I thought about putting two smaller one's way up front (not the nose area, but just before that where it splits off to either side???). But don't know if I like the idea of doing that... it looks nice up there, you know? I thought about the in the door idea, too. Only problems is, I use that rear casting deck almost all the time now. I'm afraid that would be a problem... the sides of the boat are not longer an option... curves and the idea of cutting those big ol holes there trouble me. Fronts of the consoles seem tough with the shelves and glove box behind them. I like LAChamp's idea of maybe putting them in the front box... but then they're not putting sound up front for mumma. Maybe I'll just sing to her ...
