    Gas shocks for rod lockers

Does anyone know the pounds of pressure for the gas shocks for the rod lockers and storage bin for a 97 202? I took off my old ones, but they don't have the pressure, so I don't know what to order. 20#, 40# ??

The rod lockers and front compartment on my 93 201 are 20#. I assume the one on the tank compartment lid is as well, but I'm going to replace it with a 40#

Re: Gas shocks for rod lockers (trouble)

If you can find the compressed and extended length and the proper ends, no reason you couldn't buy them locally. C&O Parts have them as well as Overton's and other Marine outlets.

If memory serves me , mine are 17" extended and 10 1/4" compressed.

i bought some gas psitons on iboats.com there should be a parts number. The poundage isnt as important as the retracted length and the extended length.

I bought the 20# for mine and they were fine. I got them at the local Auto Zone and they were $20. I found them in other places for $60. Shop carefully as it is not a custom or special part.

I got mine at AutoZone as well, Just take off the one your replacing and take it into the store and they will help you match it.

Re: Gas shocks for rod lockers (bensford66)

When I was replacing mine I went to Autozone first and they told me the needed a car model to match as they don't have the pounds listed for the ones the carry in stock just model numbers on the package. I went to Napa and they had a book with all the lengths and pounds and were very helpful. They had just ones I was looking for, I think they were 30 lbs and worked great.

I ordered some 20 pound shocks and they work great. Here's the part information: Gas Spring, Extended length = 17", Compressed length: 10-1/4", P1 Force: 20lbs. The mfg was Whitecap Industries and their part number is G-3620. The stock number of my original shocks was LS36-20-5. By the way, these cost under $20.
