    183cx psi

I have a 2007 183cx with a 150 optimax. Reading the thread on speed got me wondering, I am getting about 58 mph at WOT rt now. Roostertail a couple inches abouve cowl, and I'm getting about 15 psi. I'm only getting about 5200 rpms max. I'm set at 4" below pad. Should I be getting more rpms and a lower psi?

I believe the rpms for that motor are 5750 tops. You can get away with 12 psi....

You might try 1/8" higher and see what figures you get.. Watch rooster. What prop???

Speed sounds about right (depending on load) rooster tail sounds about right for a Champ, I would no go much lower than 15 PSI in the straights. After you get used to a hull that'll turn like yours you'll find yourself losing pressure in the corners if your not careful. The 23 Tempist should be the right prop.

I'd make sure your tach is set on the correct pole setting, I was twisting a 23 Tempist to rev limiter on another brand 18 footer at 15 PSI around 4" under pad.

If someone here does not know the correct pole setting somebody on the Merc board will, do you have SC guages, Telefex, or the new BIOS? I am not familiar with the BIOS.

I'm getting 5250 or maybe a little more in my 183 with 15lb pressure. Not sure about top speed. Going to raise another 1/8 in and see what happens with h2o pressure. My manual says 5250-5700 RPMS at WOT, so it appears I'm in operating range, although at low end. Aren't the 183's great boats?

Boy they sure are. Overall form and function are terrific. Great ride, fishability, value, and paired with the optimax 150 they are very fuel efficient.
