    Stowing the Net

Hi everyone, I'm looking for ideas on how people stow their nets when running and minimize the time from stopping to getting up on the trolling motor with the net ready (does that make sense?) I could put it back in a locker, but, hate to have to pull it back out everytime I stop to fish again. Another option would be to put the net over the front butt seat, but, I don't like it flopping around and taking up some of my vision. Back deck, I fear it hitting the motor. Currently I clip the hoop portion to the rod straps on the front deck, but, it takes space up from the other rods and occasionally tangles with some reel handles or hooks. Guess I'm really looking to see how others handle storing their nets. Has anyone installed some type of holder next to or on the consoles that would clip the net in yet not get in the way? By the way, my boat is a '01 193 DCX for size reference.

    Re: Stowing the Net (Luke)

I've owned a collapsable net and use to leave it deployed when fishing tournamnets and then ran around strapping it to the rod straps (until it broke via my big clumsy feet). Now I own a cheapie Frabill, but, its a serviceable net.

Regarding the collapsible, do you collapse the net when moving from spot to spot? Do you keep it collapsed? My fear is then when a fish is on, will my partner that day be able to deploy it in time?

Oh, and where does everyone put there net while fishing, between the consoles?

This issue, however small it is, always bugs me while fishing tournaments. Just looking for advice.

Small SS snap hook at the butt of the net, snap it in one of your finger loops that opens the lids. BINGO

I usually only carry a net when I'm in a tourny...When I'm runnin I simply put the net over the front butt seat.....and then it remains under the drivers console while fishing...

    All in all....I hate nets!

    Re: Stowing the Net (Rackman)

Thanks everyone. I like the SS snap idea. Thinking if I put it on the hoop part or handle of the net, put something at the base of the front pedastal post. (don't have the straps on the front deck lockers) Snap in and you're off. I'll try to put it together this weekend and let you all know how it turns out.

When moving I leave it ready to go. It's spot is on the port side rod locker with the net end up against the console. It will stay there when I move around, but then I usually don't run over 50 when changing spots. Mine's also different from Gunnars ...

if your trolling motors foot pedal is not recessed, put the net end over the pedal, (like you are netting the pedal) works great.

    Re: Stowing the Net (OldMikey)

I agree with Dan! Over the butt seat when moving around on the lake. The only thing I do different is I put the net over the steering wheel (handle up) when I'm fishing-it's easy for both anglers to get to if they need it! Oh yeah, I hate nets too!

I don't bother with one. It's more of a hassle than it's worth.

    Re: Stowing the Net (OldMikey)

I tuck the handle under the port side rod strap....net section towards stern (single console boat) ...or...I leave it in the port locker and holler, "Get the net!, Get the net!!!" ..at which point, my partner always says, "Where is it?"...

I suck at fishing and never need it. I only have it out in a T and while fishing, it's usually lying across the seats or on the back deck.

. I also drilled a hole through the handle and tied a long cord so that I can rope it down to anything, when th net's over the front seat and underway. Doesn't obstruct my vision.

    Re: Stowing the Net (HaulinBass)

I place the net down towards the middle seat with the handle on the center step, and place my left foot in the net while running from spot to spot. Unless I have a "rod free" side I can strap it down on.
