    Fury prop on a 198

Anyone out there running a Fury prop on a 198 with a 225 Opti? If so, what are you getting for numbers, setup, etcetera.

    Thanks.

Ran the '06 198, 225 Opti, DC, 4 batteries, 10" JP. 1 person, 25 gal gas. 88 degrees low humidity. 3-5/8" below pad, 20lb WP.

I have been running a PT TRO4 25P for about a year now. Ran it hard on the river yesterday, pretty good sustained quartering wind, had to steer against it most of the time. 67.2 GPS @ 5530 up river, 70.2 GPS @ 5530 down river, average 68.7. Changed to a 26P Trophy Plus small hub, cav ring, 2 solid plugs 2 large hole plugs. Fair hole shot, could pull some plugs, but, hit rev limiter @ 5750 and only 65mph GPS. Didn't even bother to play with it. I put the 25 PT back on, a little disgusted, I jacked the motor up another 7/8" and ran it. WOT, 16lb WP, 5600rpm (picked up 700 rpm), 68.9 up river, 70.2 down. Seemed to add 1mph to the average, ran more consistent, BUT that extra height took 80% of the walk out and the boat ran faster @ cruising speed to rpm ratio. Pretty happy, but not there yet.

This boat has run it's best #s with a 25 Tempest Plus @ 3-5/8" below, 71 mph GPS bumping the rev limiter, but that prop is, lets say, not in operation at this time.

Will a Fury prop help this boat? I know it's only a guesstimate but lets hear them.

I started testing this boat @ 4" below the pad. It has always gained speed and rpm as I raised the engine.

Are you getting increasing torque as you raise the motor? It seems when I am running fastest, the increased torque is really a problem. Very hard to turn left...easy to turn right...

    Lea,

I can't say that I have noticed an increase, but there is a small difference at WOT for the left turn.

I know with my last champion, cables, it took two men and a boy to turn left at WOT.

I have hydraulic steering, but managed to move the jackplate from when Robbie Patterson (Real Deal Porps/Sanderson Marine) ran it at best speed of 71.9...98 degree air temps with high humidity and 90 degree water temps..full T load and 2 people. So, now I am again searching for the best set up. Thank heaven for the Bob's Hydraulic!

Re: Fury prop on a 198 (Ed R)

I have a cx 198 with 225 Yamaha ran a 27 t1 yamaha rpms were low 5100 5200 did get 74.1 out 3 3/4 bottom,wp was 20, 70 degree temp, hole was a little slow not bad (EMPTY) tried 25 temp to many Rs,about 70gps,changed 25m did'nt hold boat as well but better than the 25 Temp speed about 71gps.I now am running a 25T1 yamaha loaded out gas water in livewells two large men everything you can think of in the boat running 71gps ,empty 73gps 1/2 gas,.I would like to try a 4blade as i think it would run close to the speeds i'm running now and take most of the torque out of steering.i run a trophy on the other champ i owned i lost about 1mph but gained alot better control of boat,i just have not found one to try yet.GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Fury prop on a 198 (Ed R)

    I found a 25 Fury to try.

    As I said earlier I run a 25 PT TRO4 @ 2-3/4 below the pad, 70 mph GPS.

Put the Fury on @ the same height, no plugs in prop, great hole shot, to many Rs WOT no speed. Had to drop the engine to 3-3/4" below pad before it would hook up. WOT 5650rpm 71.6-72mph GPS. 25gal, 1 person light load. Handled well, but not as well as the 4 blade.

Guess I need to try 26 Tempest Plus or the 25T1, may even try the 26 Trophy again at a lower engine height.
