Set up properly, the ChampioN hull has a great hole shot. There's no need for a hydrofoil.

you fill mine up with fuel and load the livewells full of fish(which is the way I like mine to have to run),it will come out of the hole, but the nose goes way up.I know this is typical of all bass boats but,Ive had them on skinney allisons and there was an imprvement on those.Has anyone tryed it before and are there any bad side-effects? Thanks,Ronnie

Don't think I've ever seen one on a Champ.

If it were me, I'd experiment with props before I put a foil on my rig...

I'll go against the grain here. I had stainless steel one on my old motor and I'm looking at making one similar to a Allison foil or a Bryan's Foil for mine now. My previous foil had no ill effects, an even better hole shot and even lower on plane speed.

Yeah,I know my boat will jump out off the hole, but,if I can make it get better mileage and cruise at lower speeds,I can look for fish better.Just curious if it helps them and what style works good on champs??
    Thanks,Ronnie

The foil will not help top end. Once up on pad, it will be pretty much out of the water....You will have to experiment with one to see if it will help with slower cruising...

I had one on my first Champ...It helped hole shot, but I suspect, if I had known better, a better prop and set-up would have done the same thing, as far as cruising goes...

someone once said...the only diffrence in a boat with a foil and one with out....is the one with it has 4 holes in the LU
the Allys are a compleatly diffrent creature and not even closely similar to a normal V bottom boat as far as performance and set ups the foils do help some of them but i have seen a lot with out them too.....proped and set up right they dont need it and i personally dont think the Champs do either

    Re: hydrofoils on champs (Luke)

I could stay on pad at around 10mph with a foil. I have to run around 15-16 to stay on pad now.

My boat is fast on plane now, it was as fast with a much weaker bottom ended motor and the same prop with a foil.
I will be making one when I get the right peace of aluminum. The faster hole shot is the only thig about a foil that would save you any gas.

They are a whole lot cheaper than a new prop. Loaded down with 2 fat boys and fuel its work climbing out of the hole. I am running a 23" 4 blade Power Tech. </TD></TR></TABLE>

The foil MIGHT get you out of the hole faster, but they will not get you any more top end speed... At higher speeds, they are out of the water...

    You need a better prop....
