    (older) Champion battery charger

I recently purchased a 1999 193 elite and the battery charger in it is says Champion special edition 3 bank pro. It's probably the original charger (by the looks of it) and I'm wondering if it's the kind you can leave plugged in 24/7 or not. If anyone else has this model please advise. I definitely don't want to burn up the new batteries I recently purchased. Also, how long do chargers usually last? Thanks, Darin

I have a Champion Special Edition charger and it also says "Charging Systems International" - who makes Dual Pro. You can download the Dual Pro universal manual from their webiste http://www.dualpro.com - see one of their charger pages (it should also be part of the Pro Series line).

My charger looks like the 3 Bank Champion Charger at http://www.candomarineparts.com.

I have not had any problems with mine, and while I do not worry about mine if I leave it plugged in for days/weeks, I normally disconnect the power once the batteries are charged anyway.

First one on mine lasted about 11 years. Main thing is, if your charger starts charging unusually long, do something about it. The longer the charger runs at a high charge rate, the more heat builds up. Heat is one of the biggest killers of electronic components. If my batteries are in good shape, my Dual Pro will hardly ever charge over an hour or so after a day of fishing before it goes to green. If it should charge up to 2 hrs, I'll start watching it and start looking for problems like low water levels or loose connections.
