    1972 Evinrude Controls

I have recently purchased a center-console boat and am trying to install a 1972 Evinrude (SN 125283 R). The boat came with no motor but had control for a 1988 115 Yamaha. Since the Evinrude has electric shift (and other differences), is there any way I can use the Yamaha control for throttle, shift and tilt?

    Re: 1972 Evinrude Controls (ewcong)

A '72 motor is an electric-hydraulic shift and did not come with a trim unit. It may have a tilt only piston and pump as an add-on accessory. The Yamaha control will not work for shifting on that particular motor. You would be a lot better off finding a '78 or later engine that had an internal trim unit and mechanical shift.
