115 etec stumbles and misses off idle

    Hi all,

I have a 115 etec 20" saltwater. Model # E115DSLSU Serial # 05160283. I got it midsummer this year, and have had one update installed on the ECM which took care of some hot start issues.

The engine idles flawlessly, but misses quite a bit at speeds between 600 rpm (just off idle) to about 1100 rpm. Sometimes it misses really noticably. It's sliky smooth above those rpms, and at dead idle. Any ideas? Are there any new updates or fixes I need to bring it in for other than the initial update I had installed by my dealer?

Do all of these motors do this? Is it a part of the transition from lean burn mode to normal, or is there something potentially wrong?

    Thanks

Re: 115 etec stumbles and misses off idle (jbosch)

    Hi jbosch
I have a E115DPXSU Number 05174635 and when testing with an incorrect prop it ran as smooth as silk from idle (580rpm) to (5200rmp), this motor arrived without the MAP upgrade but was updated when it was tested. I think your problem may be where the fuel turns from mist to rain, it has a special name but I can't remember it, the Guru's will be able to explain.

I've got an '06 115 E-Tec (25"). She doesn't miss or stumble, but the RPM's will vary some at constant throttle in the 1,000 RPM range.

Could this have something to do with the throttle cam profile? Seems there was a different cam that made those rpms smoother. Try searching back a few pages.

I've used both throttle cams with the same results. For me the varying RPM isn't a problem at all. In the 800 - 1200 range, she'll go up and/or down 50 or 100 rpm at intervals...sometimes minutes. Who knows, it could be wind, current or waves. I only mentioned it for reference. Mine has never missed or sputtered with either cam.
