Have had boat a long time but never had coast guard label. Need to know what HP rating is. Have 150 xr4 merc, but is too slow. Seems like it should be able to carry more. Had a 200 yam when i bought it,??? Anybody know? Transom is solid as a rock.

Here is the U.S. Coast guard formula for determining the max HP rating:

Keep on scrolling, you'll get there![]()
I believe it was rated for a 175. No wood in your transom, alum. grid and expoxy type filler.![]()
That would be my transom sir, i wanna' try my 2.4 brigeport on it, tks
I appreciate the responses, i hope more cajun guys showup, there gotta be tons of em still out there, this is my 3rd one and, although she is older, i love the hull ,and it really fishes well, but these days info seems scarce.
Thanks for that info jughead. I looked it up as well and my boat looks identical hull wise to an 87 skeeter starfire. That was interesting to know.

Don't know about your hull, those boats ran more like a Champion hull, but I think it was a Cajun design.
Walt, your bow may be similar to a 175, but the stern and transom are different on a ragin cajun.
Jughead, from the 175 starfire pics i found the actual hull and strakes seem identical, cajun obviously used a lot better transom material, no wood, looks like the top caps were finished differently at the bow, but very similar to the rear. Tks. For bringing this up. Now i know why it will last w/ a 175-200 motor.
So,as i thought my cajun 175 is underpowered a little, i detuned my BPort carb motor when i rebuilt it, by using higher volume heads , dropping cr from 165to 130 ish. Psi, it will still rev but be less of an animal, and run on pump premium, so, basically i'll have a way bigger motor and alot lighter than an xr4, as i have an alien hood and the alum flywheel,on it. I think i will touch 68-70 easily after fresh paint on the hull this winter and get the right motor/prop setup. I just need to find out if they like motor setback or not.
well either way it runs heavy and deep and i'm adding a bigger motor to get that thing moving lol. I'm putting a Johnson 150 V-6 on it.
I dont think a 150 is big enuff
Well I'm not locked into it. I'm gonna try it out and if it doesn't give me what I want we're gonna find another motor. I really want the 150 striker he has but the guy hasn't brought him the title to it. But if the 150 will push me 60 to 65 I will be happy. It's better than what I have cause it has the bigger gear box and more hp at the prop and will take a bigger prop than mine. Mine is rated at 140hp at the powerhead only. And I can only put up to a 13 1/2 prop and with a 13 1/2 x 20P I won't be able to prop it out enough to get 60 or 65 mph out of it.
If you want an omc, maybe an older johnson GT 150 or 200 would work too or an evinrude xp? Dunno i'm a merc guy, not sure where you are but i have a couple xr4's, an xr2 and a 200efi for sale.
I just don't want to switch out the controls and all of that. The way I'm headed I only have to do a motor swap. But it's worth a try anyway.
If your in Canada its paperwork you have to fill out . I have the same issue i have no coast guard plate and i called and emailed a bunch of people in transportation Canada and finally i got the right person. email me and i'll send you the info i have and the contact.

bfstud,I would like to know if you have a jackplate and where the motor is set on the transom,?? a 91 xr4 is what i have on it now,,
darren ,thanks, sounds like a good winter project.
Its three pages of diagrams you just fill in the measurements send it away and they will send you a new sticker. ( if you want one )
