    trolling motor size?

I have a 95 Travis XL 18 1/2 ft Rajun Cajun bass boat. I am lookin to replace the trolling motor and was wondering what a proper sized TM would be. The old Johnson TM, I think is, 45lb 24 volt. I fish fresh water and some river systems. I upgraded to a 898 Huminbird so I guess a Minkota would be the best choice. The Minkota will link with the Huminbird.

I would say if your fishing rivers, I would go with the biggest 24v you can get. A 75lb thrust should pull you around nicely.

I had a 65# on an 18ftr and wind conditions had plenty but always bought the biggest batts I could get in the battery area. 29's and replaced them every other year.

My pre-owned 19.5' Cajun came with a 62 lb MotorGuide, and it is woefully inadequate in any kind of wind. It works just good enough to keep me from going out and buying a new one, but if it dies, I'll definitely be going with more thrust.

Thanks guys for the help. Next question Should I stay with a cable or go with wireless? I really like the wireless but I have heard they are slow to turn, etc. The wireless also hooks up to the GPS in the huminbird. I think the W75 from Minkota?

I plan on putting a 101 or 109 36v MK/MG on mine. River current, wind, and most important grass make this a necessity. The biggest you can afford of course but I would buy an 82 or close.

I have a 1980 Brute and I run a 101 Terrova, plenty of power when needed, I would not go under that anymore after having the power.

Good grief. How'd I ever get along with 36 and 41 lbs of thrust in tidal rivers all those years?
