    Bassboat floor replacement

What is the best way to redo a portion of the floor on a bassboat? I have a portion of my floor that is rotting. It is the portion that is directly over the livewells and it also holds the rear seat, which i wouldn't sit on unless i want to end up in the water; yes that unstable. What kind of plywood do i buy? Thickness? What do I seal it with? What type sealer? Do I seal the whole piece of wood? Sides? Top and bottom? What type of screws? Anything else i need to know or be concerned about? I am a novice at this, so a detailed explanation would be appreciated? I've gotten great responses from you guys before, so I know i am in good hands. Please help!!!!!
    Thanks
    Dennis

well the best way is to replace the whole floor but thats one heck of a job. You need to cut up past the rotted the area. You need to realy look at your stringers and all wood around the area. You may want to add more suport in that area. I coated every peice of just plain 3/4" plywood with fiberglass resin on all sides after it was cut to fit. When it was laid down i mixed up some resin and where the screws were put in i put a dab of resin on the treads to seal it up. I used stainless screws to prevent rusting. After the floor was laid I used fiber cloth and resined over everything. Hope this info helps.

    Re: Bassboat floor replacement (valleycajun)

I did a carpet job on my cajun last winter. My live wells had one piece of plywood that was screwed down to the top of the wells. I first removed the rear hatch with the piano hinge. The rotted wood I had was the piece of floor just in front of the seats. After I got that out I found another fiberglass floor underneath it which was in perfect shape. I bought a piece of 3/4" treated plywood at Home Depot and cut a new piece using the old one as a template, new carpet and back in the boat, good as new now. Hope this helps, I have a Travis edition 1994
