    Question about possible Cajun purchase

I have found a 1992 Cajun 1800XPT with a Yamaha 150proV that I was thinking about purchasing. It appears to be in excellent condition but I can't find much info on these boats since they are no longer in business. I am concerned about buying a boat this old due to possible floor and transom rot. Were cajuns all composite or composite/wood? Are they prone to a lot of rot or were they pretty solid?

Money looks like around 7500 for boat, motor and trailer, but I'm pretty sure I could talk them down. What do you think would be fair market price?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Question about possible Cajun purchase (dadass)

I recently purchased a similar 1996 1800 Espirit. Overall great condition. No issue with rot or transom problems. Owner was asking $7,500 & within 4 weeks with no action dropped the price to $6,200 on his own. I gave $5,800 and I feel both of got fair deal. Do remember, you are going to have quite a few expenses after the purchase making everything your own plus taxes when you transfer title. Good luck. I'd include pics of mine if i knew how?

Prices are going to be different depending on region. I think if you talk him down from that $7500 as much as you can, you'll be getting a fair deal, assuming that the boat is in good shape mechanically, cosmetically, and is seaworthy.

My '88 Cajun Espirit 195 was in prime condition when I bought it last year. I bought it from the second owner, who bought it from his friend. Both guys kept the boat stored indoors, and both guys are mechanics. Who has owned your pre-owned boat, and how they cared for it are everything when you're talking 15 or 20 years.

I don't know about the construction materials of the floor, or how prone Cajuns are to rot. But I can tell you that my transom is rock-solid, and the original flooring and upholstery on my boat are all in excellent shape, with no soft spots.

tshooter, that is one sweet looking cajun, love the colors. I think I may hold out, one of the things that concerns me is the color of the one I am looking @ and it looks like it would be hot. I might hold out for a Javelin, I hear they are really good boats and are all composite materials.

The interior color does make a HUGE impact!!! Mine is in perfect, like new condition, however, it is dark green (forrest green) and smokin' hot in the middle of July. Just for grins the other day I took my wife's kitchen thermometer and tested various locations withing the boat. At 102F the interior carpet was 120, the vinyl seat was a cool 150F. Hot buns to say the least. Good luck.
