What is wrong with the HPDI lower unit.....

I have been hearing some talk on BBC and other places about the HPDI lower unit having problems that limit it's application on fast hulls? What are they talking about? Is this a problem if you are running close to 100MPH or 80MPH? There is suppose to be a "fix" for it will this make all the HPDI lower units faster or just the REALLY fast boats?

I have heard that Sanderson Marine does some short of blueprint to the lower unit. I want to win the lower unit mod that Titus is giving away at the owner's tourny myself.

This mod is only needed on boats such as Strokers which run 2"+ above the pad. The stock HPDI unit will be fine on your rig.

Go ahead and say it Greg,....my boat is to SLOW to worry about it I know what you mean I am only kidding. Isn't the HPDI lower faster than the VMAX lower? It looks like it would be.

You can run the HDPI lower at higher drive heights, which makes it faster. All of our rigs are slow compared to Greg.

I gained 3 mph switching fom the reg OX66 LU with 1.75 gears to the HPDI LU with 1.75 gears. It's 1 in shorter and will run higher with good water pressure. The OX66 is only good to speeds up to 78 with a heavy load and lots of trim to 83+ and minimal trim and load before it will blow out. I think that a HPDI LU on a 70 mph boat will be slower than the standard case. It's longer and has more drag at the depth it needs to run at on a 70 mph boat.

I have the Titus mod and my lower unit looks more like a blue sportmaster now and well will run 3" above my pad with lots of water pressure!

My 200 Strat pushes 90 with no ill handling characteristics at all.

I guess some of the 100 mph guys may have more to add.

I had more than one Bullet pull up to me at the ramp and tell me they didn't know a Stratos could run like that..........I just smile and tell them they lightened them up some!

It's the Stratos guys who cry the loudest tho.......just when they get topped out the get passed by a 10 mph faster Stratos.

I do wonder every day just how fast my Yamaha would push a 202.......I'd expect triple digits. I have a few more goodies from Hydro Tech on this 07 engine......this one has much better holeshot also.

Todd, I got a 202 to test that motor on! It would probably take me all summer to get it dialed in.
