    Throttle adjustment help please.

Can someone give me instructions on how to adjusting the throttle cable on an '04 225 DI? I've got twins and my Starboard motor's RPMs won't even start to move until I advance the the throttle about an inch. The Port motor responds instantaneously. It's been that way since new and I've live with it but when I had someone else run the boat today, they couldn't run the boat straight because there's about a 600 rpm difference. I had to keep telling them to look at the tachs and even then they still had trouble. Plus I can only get 5100 rpms max on that starboard motor the way it is.

    Thanks,

    - Dae

This may not be a throttle cable adjustment, remove the motor covers (motors off of course) have someone move the throttle lever of both motors and see if the move together, if they do there may be another problem.

    Rusty,

I didn't even think of that, and you might be right because after I get the rpms synced up, I can pull the starboard back to almost the exact position as the port throttle and the RPMs still match. It's almost like the throttle cable slips a bit.

    Melvin,

If you want to help, it's going to be an all day trip because the boats down on the Honga River.

Depending on weather, I'll be going down this coming Sat or Sunday and you and Peetie-Pie are welcome to go down with us and check the motor then do some fishing. Call or email me if you're interested.

BTW, I got out today with a buddy of mine and fished Tolchester in my Keywest. Got a mess of perch for my neighbor and threw back a bunch of dink stripers and a keeper striper because of sores.

    Guys,

If it's not a throttle cable adjustment, what could it be, possibly the TPS? Also if it is the throttle cable, is the adjustment done at the motor end or the Binnacle?

    Thanks,

    - Dae

Dea, it done at the engine. You may have a throttle cable with to much back and fourth in it. If the builder installed to long of a cable and looped it in the boat it can cause this. How did them Rebel wheels work for you??

    Joe,

I still haven't installed the new props. I keep meaning to do it but I don't get to the boat often so I let the Marina, where I keep the boat, use my trailer. No trailer, no prop install because I don't want to take a chance of dropping something, like myself in the drink.

Thanks for the info on the cable. What I don't understand is how a longer cable on one side can cause it because I would think the travel would be the same.

All adjustments, if everything is right at the controls, will be done at the motors.

There are a couple of things that come to mind on the motor.
