    2001 Sabre

Hey guys I've been looking at a 2001 Sabre with a mercury XR6 150 on the back of it. I'm looking for some information on both the hull and more importantly the motor. open to all opinions. also what are the numbers i could be expecting with this boat? Not sure what pro is on it yet. Thanks!!

All Fiberglass Hull, Lifetime transferrable warranty, great engine, great boat, rides good, fuel efficient, speeds up to 70 range potentially.

What they said, except for the speed, not gonna happen with that Xr6 unless it has been modified- or you like running with no tackle or Gas. That is an awesome combo though and should be a 62-66 MPH boat. I had the exact same setup for 2 years and absolutley loved that boat. Make sure you upgrade the seats if not done already, and build yourself a deck extension if there is not one built already. That boat was a great handling boat and very very fun to drive.

I would have to argue that one. I had an 03 Sabre w/ stock 150xr6 that hit over 72 several times w/ all my fishing equipment in the boat. I am not saying everyone of these combos out there will see these speeds, but mine did. Still to this day the most exciting boat I have ever driven...and I have sat behind the wheel of some fast bullets and allisons that would run strong, but the Sabre was still more fun to drive.

Heard it done before and that is EXACTLY why I got a Sabre. I can see an XR6 proped right and setup right with the right driver running up to 70. On a lake not downriver with the current.

    Re: 2001 Sabre (mcherry)

I just got a 2000 sabre 2 months ago. I like it I hit 64 last weekend full load and tanks with two people and still had more to go. I think when I get the chine walk worked out of it I will see 69-70.

    X2

I have a 2004 Sabre with the tank under the seat (which is a slower configuration) and can hit close to 70 with my XR-6. Hit 65 this weekend with full livewell, tournament load, and two adults. The cold air just brings that motor alive.

Sounds like your running it deep. Try raising the motor 1/4 inch..

    24 Fury @ 5750 rpm's in the warmer months and a 25 Tempest @ 5500 in the colder months.
Sounds like ya'll are running the motor to low in order to avoid chime walk vs learning to control it. You will not see the upper 60's without learning to control chime walking.

I am running a Tempest Plus 23" on a 2010 Sabre FTD/150 ProXS. My max was a couple of weeks ago by myself at 65.1mph. I am between 3/8 and 1/2in. above flush on the plates. One thing I do is try and balance the weight I carry. The storage compartment behing the drivers seat is empty, most of my weight is behind the passenger seat. The rods in the port locker, minimal tackle (just what I need for the day) in one of the front boxes, jacket and bibs go in starboard locker when I take them off. The only time it chinewalks is when I over trim (loses water pressure and speed). Balancing the load will reduce cinewalking considerably. I might try a Fury, but i am very happy with the performance of the rig as it is!

    Re: 2001 Sabre (Dennis S.)

I was considering in going to the 24 Fury, maybe I don't. I am not seeing those numbers at all. I run 5,700 60mph tops.

I've done the same with tackle and weight balance. Tempest+ 24, 1/4" above flush on the plate - 67gps - 07 Sabre DC w/ 150efi. You're exactly right on the chinewalk. When it's trimmed right - the rig is straight as an arrow with little or no wobbles.
