    Lost Reel - Need Help

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this but here goes. Last Tuesday I shipped a reel to an incorrect address that I believe belongs to someone who is a BBC member. The reel should have gone to a guy that actually bought the reel who lives in Nevada. Someone texted me and told me to ship it to an address in Clovis, California. I did not perform my due diligence and verify the address of the fellow that actually bought the reel. needless to say I'm currently out a Core 101 reel. The reel was shipped to an apartment at the following address:

    687 West Santa Ana Ave.
    Apt 204
    Clovis, California 93612

I'm hoping the guy that texted me the address was confused because I was selling some lures as well as few reels at the same time and maybe he "thought" he had purchased something from me. Before the comments begin about how stupid I was to not make sure I had the correct address I wholeheartedly agree with your thought process. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Feeling ignorant in Georgia.

After I didn't hear from the true purchaser after it had almost been a week I assume he got the reel. Again, stupid move. Folks just need to be careful. After I put that the reel just sold on the thread within a couple of minutes I got a text saying I needed to ship it to Clovis, California. I just got scammed. Plain and simple. Be careful!

I'm sure you tried calling the number they texted you from already? If they don't answer the phone or return texts then they weren't confused about what they were doing. I don't know that you can get police involved as nothing illegal really went on. You do have their phone number and address though......

If the person who provided the incorrect address intentionally did so, they committed fraud and could be arrested and prosecuted.

Sorry to hear about this scam. I'm wishing the scammer meets Mr. Karma soon. Hard lesson learned, but thanks for sharing this so we can all be more aware. If it makes you feel any better, I would have done the same thing.

If you shipped the reel via the USPS..Contact the Postal Inspection Service and file a mail fraud complaint. They won't have a problem knocking on the door. Good Luck.

I feel for you. We all learn lessons the hard way, me too!!!

I don't know the legal ramifications, or the value of the reel, but being interstate fraud/theft may raise the level of the crime.

    Good luck in getting resolution!!

I always see guys on the classified posting their phone numbers and email addresses in their threads. This is so risky. You should only give that information out via PM, don't just post if for the whole world to see. The site is wide open and anyone can access it without logging in. There are tons of bots/spiders that scan these forums and pull out any useful information they can. They can easily pick up your email or phone number and exploit it. If you need to post photos, upload them to Photobucket or something like that, don't tell folks to text you for pics... You are just opening yourself up for trouble. Maybe we should ask that the Classifieds mods add a rule that they can enforce that protects users' private information...

Sorry for your loss - hope you get your reel back!

I believe if you sell anything here it is mandatory that you have your name and E-mail address in your profile. Flog me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the response guys. Just got back into town from being at Guntersville for the past four days. Going to get back on this in the morning. USPS said since they delivered the reel to the address I had on the box there's nothing they can do. Not so sure but if someone uses the USPS to commit fraud it would appear to me that they should at least want to try to assist a customer. But I'm not trying to absolve myself of screwing up. I just learned an expensive lesson.

PM sent. I think I may have found the people who scammed ya.

Not sure if there's much that can be done, other than maybe shipping them a box of poo

Well if you do make sure you don't leave any incriminating evidence on the package since that might be considered hazardous material and could be illegal!
