Simple answer: different heads for diff types of cover\structure
Football for around rocks,so they wont go between rocks and get stuck and slender cone type heads for swimming thru grass, ect:
Where is the freedom?
Football is good for rocks or any surface with no brush. If you look at the eyelet that you tie your line to and just think about it and what it will be doing while you are fishing different areas you should know what would work best in that cover. I only use three kinds: Football, brush, bullet Jigs. I can do everything with those and it keeps it simple. Football is great because it puts my trailer up off the bottom, so when I want to really work the bottom I use Football. Brush, gets used when I'm in brush and I want to work it slow. Bullet is my swim Jig and my dock skipping jig and it is great in grass and good in brush very versatile.
I use footballs on the flats, modified Arkey for flipping wood(no Grass here), round finesse heads for docks and bluff walls.
Football for open water for me. If it's mud, rocks, gravel, etc the way the football stands the trailer up is perfect. For cover I prefer and Arky head that most flipping jogs come with. War Eagle makes some good cheap football jigs.
