    mounting a jackplate

    Hi all

I'm in the process of mounting a jackplate on my 2003.
A trim piece covers the top cap to the hull. The current jackplate mount below the trim.

The new jack plate mounting is taller. When mounted to the boat there will slight gap at the top between jackplate and transon. the gap spacing is ~1/16 inch. Is this a concern? Should I install a plate between the transom and jackplate?

The jacklplate to boat mounting allow me to mount the plate in either of two positions, What position would you recommend?

When I mount engine to the jackplate is there a recommended hole position?

btw the jack plate is a mercury paralift
    thanks

Myself I would not use the paralift, way to heavy, also most plates for Allisons are notched at the top for the trim

Relieving the top would not be an option because the type of construction of the plate.

I just checks bob's 12" plate, it weights about the same.

Just wondering if there could be any potential ill effect using a Para-lift on an Ally seeing as how the setback distance changes as the unit raises and lowers.

    Re: mounting a jackplate (urfun1)

What size (setback) is the paralift? Was the other jackplate mounted to the transom, or setback plates?

the paralift is 12" of setback.

the current plate is mounted to directly to the transon. The setback is 5-6"

    thanks

Just a thought here, as I have no experience with a para lift.

I have a 9" manual Allison jackplate that you could mount with the setback plate & be at 14-15" which is what most guys run.

    $200 plus shipping if interested

You could always space it out to clear the trim on the transon. On the xb 2003 the normal setback is 14".

How would one use a 14" setback with a stock allison 10" jackplate? Is it possible?

I would make a thin aluminum plate to go under the trim, between the transom and the jackplate so it would mount flat like it should.
