You need to trim all the way up and bring it back down to the support bracket. Then you can get at the secret screw.
mytfine:
If your tilt/trim unit is like my 1986 Rude 150 then you'll have to separate the trim motor/hydraulic tilt/trim part of the assy. from the motor bracket. That screw is impossible to get to unless you remove the assy. You'll have to get the motor all the way up, lock your safety bar, then I'd still support the motor with a floor jack or something as a back up. then you'll have to slowly unscrew the manual release screw, then you should be able to pull the pivot pin out of the tilt ram. Then you'll have to lower the ram down by hand. Then you can unbolt the tilt/trim unit so you can remove it. Once you get the whole unit removed, then you can get to the hidden screw. I did this two weeks ago with mine, and it's not much fun but if you're pretty mechanically inclined, it is possible. I'd still find a repair manual if you can, just to be on the safe side if you decide to attempt it. I'm not an expert, but I'm fairly sure that your unit is the same as mine. Here in saltwater land we remove the engine from the boat so we can hit all the bolts with the heat wrench. Damn freshwater people dont know how good they have it.
