    E-tec 225 HO spark plugs

I damaged one of my spark plugs over the weekend and need to replace it. IT is a Champion QC10PEPB. In general i think Champion makes terrible spark plugs and I have always changed over to NGK when possible. The plug that crosses is a NGK PZFR6H. Is there any reason anyone can think of not to switch plug brands? I dont think i really broke the champion. I think it was already cracked because the motor missed all day last saturday.

    Thanks,

If your motor is "missing" you can get new plugs under warranty from your dealer, along with deflector pins, thermostats or pressure relief valves, and any software updates, should they be needed. It sounds like you have not had a conversation with your dealer's service manager, or your dealership is not "up to date".

Not only that but the recommended plug for your motor has changed a while back to QC10WEP.

Years back OMC tried the NGK plugs in the FICHTS, which were around $20 at the time, and soon switched back to Champions for better life and a lot less cost.

Do these plugs have to be put in a certain way? I called my dealer and they act like i shouldnt be doing this myself. They said they all have to be lined up a certain way in these motors?

You need to have the gap pointing toward the injector. You'll need some permanent markers. Make a line on the side of the plug directly in line with the gap and turn it to the proper tightness. You need to make sure that the line you drew lines up with the injector for each plug. You'll need a few extra plugs as I've had a few that I just couldn't get lined up properly without too much or too little tightness.

Take Seahorse's advice and get it to the dealer. Allow him to do that for you correctly. The procedure by which they are installed is called spark plug indexing. There is a link somewhere on site showing the proper way to do this. By no means do you want to mess up a fine motor like yours.

    Good luck!

    Seahorse...What is the gap suppose to be on the QC10WEP? I have a 2006 E-tec 225 HO.

The gap is the same as the QC10PEPs, should be .028" +/- .003" or refer to the emission control label on the engine bracket (should be near the serial tag).

The QC10WEP is supposed to help plug life if you do alot of trolling.
