    Dang Allison Fever

Boy, did I make a mistake...I've been tossing around the idea of an Allison, and have driven a few, mostly 2002's with promaxes but never strung them out. Well, Sunday I hopped behind the wheel of a 2002 with a 2.5 Drag...

WOW!! I made two warm up passes, then let her eat. I planned on easing her to top end to see how it would handle. It was handling super sweet, I wasn't having to drive it too hard, when I went to push down the gas and realized I was on the floor! Looked at the tach, it was showing 8100.... Later, another boat ran alongside me to gps the run, 8100 at 102mph. I know there was still room to trim her up, I was still pretty negative on it since I didn't have much seat time in it. The owner had a 26 on it, since he was still learning to drive it as well...I idled back in, looked at all my friends (who all run Allisons except for one HydroStream Venom) and said "I thought you boys said these boats were hard to drive!".... I'd love to drive her again with a stiffer prop and better lake conditions so I could really let her stretch her legs...

The 2002's are the best handleing, most well balanced v-hulls that were ever built in my opinion. Not the best fishing platform, but certainly a great all around fun boat.

Here you go AB 2002 with a 2.5 drag on E-bay.

No, I wasn't looking for a new boat.

    I ran a 2002 with a Mariner 2.5 drag shorty to 107.

Not being use to the 2002, the feeling of being right on the water due to the short front deck was the oddest part of the passes.

You'd be suprised the number of '02's you see here in Tennessee fishing tournaments.......I guess there's more here than anywhere else due to the factory's close proximity and Jaco doing so well with them back in the day.

That thing was fairly easy to drive. It had a conservative setup (one of the local Allison guru's set it up so the owner wouldn't kill himself with it ). We have 5 or 6 2002's that run my chain of lakes. Wouldn't mind adding one to the stable...

What I noticed was the way that the thing didn't really chinewalk, it had more of a "lean" to it. Just relax the wheel a bit and she'd straighten up, then work the wheel a bit back to the left...bump the trim...then repeat. Like I said, I only made two passes with the boat before I had it up into the 100's.

Oh, and I've already been looking at that one...lol....as soon as my Stratos sells, I'll be looking real hard!

what i have learned with mine is that when it leans left, go up on the trim. when it leans right go down. have ran it 92 and change with a stock 200. boat aint bad to fish out of, but i find myself fishing less! mt
