Re: Wanting a new Allison (idratherbfishin2008)

I have a 4 seater Bassport. I choose it because I haul the family around and fish a lot of tourneys. The quality is second to none. You will never have to worry about wood rotting, transom problems, the hot foot pull out of the wood floor, etc. Allison puts glassed in aluminum plates in these areas for a superiour product in my opinion. The transom has glassed in metal superstructer. Many Allisons out there are over 20 years old and look like they came of the show room floor. I have owned several other brand performance hulls. I am 47 yrs. old, I believe this boat will last my life time if I take decent care of it.

With that said, you get what ya pay for. Allisons are more expensive than some other brands. It's all in what your recreational goals and needs are.

I can assure you, as far as quility, fuel economy, ride and so on there are none that can compare the Allison hulls. Go for a ride and then decide.

If you live never KY you are welcome to go for a ride in ole Blue. There are a lot of dealers that handle the top of the line performance hulls such as Allison and Bullet both for you to compare rides, etc. If you haven't already, I would take advantage of that so you know you've made the right decission for your needs.

    Good luck to ya.

Reynolds Racing and Marine is located in Harriman, TN, and they offer Allison and Bullet. I am sure they would be more than glad to help you with anything. Their website is, http://www.reynoldsracingmarine.com.

Any Allison is pricey but, now days what you cant really believe is the affordability when it comes to fuel mileage. There is not enough said about this. Of course I own a 250XB and there cant be any much worse. But my Alli will go so much farther on a gallon it unbelievable. This might be hard to believe but it gets about six times better fuel mileage then my ranger. where i can go on 64 gallons I can get there on 12 with the Alli, go figure that up on a yearly basis. And as far as quality you will get tired looking at it before you ever wear it out. I have had mine for 6 years and it looks just like the day I bought it, no signs of wear, seats not ripped,gel-coat not cloudy,no cracks in the transom. Only nicks that I have done myself. Now my ranger and I not putting it down is 3 years newer and it shows more wear. I have every once in a while get the old screw driver out and make my rounds tightening up everything on the ranger. I have some hatches that I have had to move screws to get to bite. Replace gas cylinders. But I think every other boat needs that too. but to be honest I have had to do very little of that on the Alli...

Good point on the fuel economy Ed, the fuel savings alone even when compairing engine for engine the Allison will about pay for itself nowdays in fuel savings.

    Well said Blueally!!!!!!

Re: Wanting a new Allison (imn2bassn)

If they would only put a trailer under it to match.
I have owned several boats over the years, including everything from a Bayliner to a Ranger with a Gambler thrown in the mix somewhere. For the fit and finish the Gambler I had was the best. With the Ranger being the most fish-able.
But for all-around performance, reliability, fuel economy, both pulling and on the water. Ability to take the family out and then still fish a major tournament trail. I would pick the 21prosport hands down.
I prefer the cockpit and extra protection of the prosprt models.
My last boat was a 2003 and this one is the 21ft prosport. If they told me they were going to quit making them I would be sure to get the last one made and make it last for the rest of my fishing years..

If you live in the Knoxville area I would recommend you stop by the Allison
plant in Louisville for a plant tour and a demo ride. call Nancy Allison at 983-5924 to arrange the best time. I fish from a single console Bassport Pro and I would
be glad to meet you at the lake and let you try the boat. It is hard to appreciate
what a great fishing boat it is until you actually fish from the boat. Also check out
    the website at http://www.allisonboats.com.

I have experienced no problems with Boatmate trailers. I have been well satistfied with mine. No rust, loads easy, fit to finish. I will say if I was to order new one I would get the diamond plate option. You can order them with just what you want. Great folks to deal with.

Re: Wanting a new Allison (V6MERC)

There are about 15 Allisons in this town.
most of them are 1996 -2000 models.
My last one was a 2000 model, My friend ordered one the same day.

They both spun a hub within 6 months of purchase. My friends lost 2.. both on the same side. neither one of our trailers fit the boat right.. we had to extend the bow stop about 4 inches then put shims under the bunk boards to make them fit.
You could chip the paint with your fingernail. At that time they did not use stainless bolts or lag screws..So those had to be replaced... When mine was 2 yrs old the brackets that hold the bunk boards were rusted bad. So I took the boat off to clean them up and repaint........I had to replace them...after I got thru grinding the rust off you could bend the metal with your hand...... While doing this I noticed that the springs and shackles were wearing funny..All the bushings were gone.....Come to find out the U bolts on the front axle were set about 2 inches closer together than the rear axle. One of the 96 models broke a spring.. Replaced it then broke an Axle...Another 96 model broke the rear cross member. It was rusted about half way thru Along with all the rest of the cross members.
Now keep in mind we live in a semi desert region (no where near an Ocean)
Several of the 96 models had the same issues with the bow stop being 2 to 4 inches from the bow eye.............. After several years of winching the boat down to the stop.....Guess what------- broke the bow eye. no telling what it did to the hull. I could go on but I won't
I will admit this 2006 trailer is much improved, but mine already has a million rock chips in the paint and there is already rust showing around the bunk brackets.
I swore I would never own another trailer made by the same co. but I did !

I will get off my soap box now.....And if anyone thinks this is just a rant. Send me an e-mail.. and I will give you names and phone numbers of the people who will be glad to give you detailed info about there trailers.

Here are a couple of pics of my 2006 trailer. I think you can click on one and it will show a close up. I put a counteract anti rust device on the trailer 2 months ago. But look how bad the rust is already [IMG][/IMG]

    fnf,
Looks like you spend some time on a long gravel road or driveway, I've never seen an Allison trailer like that.

Re: Wanting a new Allison (Props4u2)

    Welcome to West Texas
Most states out here use small gravel to resurface the roads. They lay a thin layer of rocks down on top of fresh tar. It works good for them but is hell on trailers.
Every Allison trailer looks like that out here. I won't pull with out mud/rock flaps on the truck. I made a pair that can be removed real easy. I also put a belly pan on my trailers to protect the hull..
I think part of my problem is that I have ordered both of my Allisons. It could be the paint never got a chance to cure while sitting at a dealers. I also ordered both of them with the extra clear coat. I know they changed paints a few years back... But it's not much better..
Just my opinion.....I think it should be against the law to build a boat trailer out of tube steel all they do is RUST

Guess maybe I was spoiled by the previous trailers, I had a Gambler made by Ameritrail and a Ranger trail trailer. I would venture to say that the 94 Gambler looks better today than the 2000 boat mate I just sold does.

Re: Wanting a new Allison (imn2bassn)

I finally bit the bullet and put a new trailer under my 1997 Ally. I got a real channel iron trailer. I have a 1987 Ally w/the same brand of channel iron trailer that looks better than my 10 year newer Boatmate.

    Froggy,
Do you know what year they went to boat mate trailers.

I know the trailer co they used before did not seem to have near the problrms.

Next time get them to galvanize your trailer, that'll take care of any rust problems.
