Rusty I have a plug question?

I have a 1993 Rude 200XP that runs like a champ. this year after decarb I changed to new plugs instead of the Champs I was told to try NGK because they were "better" by a freind. after a few tanks of fuel I noticed a miss then it happened more frequently. and now getting the Nitro on plane the motoer misses and sputters. The mechanic at the marine store said NGK's take out the powerpacs in this model Rude engine, is this true? The boat/motor are at the doctors to fix and I am just checking with the gurus here to confirm?

    Thanks in advance

Omc and champion plugs are like water is to mud... Can't have one to do right without the other.... Put the Champions back in....

    Amen brudda,

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

I don't know if there is truth to the "taking out the PP" but after running NGK, and Denso's in an old 60 HP motor I replaced the PP. Nuthin' but champs for me.

I've seen the NGK's try and turn the motor backwards on fire up. Merc says use them OMC/BRP says use Champs with exceptions. Check the sticky for your specific motor.

Re: Rusty I have a plug question? (puckstopper)

The letter Q in a Champion plug means there is an AC suppressor, NOT a resistor inside the sparkplug.

A resistor is usually around 5000 ohms and limits the current that can flow thru the plug. It adds a "load" on the ignition system which has to be designed for it. They are normally used for RFI problems.

A suppressor is a fine coil of wire inside the ceramic that looks like a ball-point pen spring. AC voltage has a hard time going thru a coil of wire due to the expanding and contracting magnetic fields that are formed each time the voltage increases in one direction and decreases in the opposite way. A suppressor "acts" like a resistor to high frequency AC current, but allows DC current to flow freely. A Champion suppressor wire coil only has about 40 ohms resistance. Ignition systems are designed for the "suppression" that is inherent in the " Q " plugs, or " Z " plugs from NGK.
