    Re: Lonesome Dove (rlb8s)

The book was top's and I hate to read.
The movie is one of my all time favorites, along with the Dukes movies.
I wish they made more good western movies today.

I never get tired of watching them.

My last black lab's registered name was Ranger Josh Deets and like his namesake, he was a helluva tracker (recovering wounded deer). Don't know how many times I've watched the movie and read the book... both are favorites. Kinda obvious by my screen name, huh?

Great movie and great book. I've always said that it would seem that McMurtry wrote the book with the idea that the movie would be made and that Tommy Lee Jones would play Call and Robert Duval would play Gus. Those 2 made the movie with their acting. No other actors could have pulled those roles off like they did. JMHO. One of the greatest westerns of all time.

    Re: Lonesome Dove (CanepoleSC31)

Nobody could have played Gus and Woodrow better than Jones and Duvall. Augustus McCrae is probably my favorite character of all time.
But I tell you what, the 2 actors that played Gus and Woodrow on Commanche Moon NAILED Duvall and Jones!! Could not have found 2 actors that could do as good a job! Steve Zahn (Gus) had Duvalls mannerism's, walk, accent, and speech down perfect.
