'95 Intruder 150, Bottom Pinion Bushing Removal

What's the best way to get the bottom brass bushing for the starter pinion out of the block? ...Heat the block? I've got access to a decent one in another block and I'd like to get that out (without damaging it) so I can use the motor this weekend (otherwise another 3 days to wait for the part)

Tap the bushing for (I think) 3/8" coarse threads. Drill a hole in a piece of flat steel that is long enough to be supported by the edges of the flywheel cavity, and insert a bolt or a chunk of threaded rod with a nut thru the hole. Screw it into the now threaded bushing, and turn the nut which will withdraw the brass bushing. Nice and simple, but there ain't no way to not damage it upon removal!
