Not surprised your tire was a Marathon. Hope you didn't damage the fender well too much. I would get the 857 Kumhos. No tire comes close for a bass boat trailer tire. 65-70 psi, D rated tire. I love mine.

Whatever you get, make sure to run enough pressure in them.

The picture of the tire tells a story, but I won't comment further unless the OP comments on how much pressure was in the tire. The picture says "not much".

I did reviews for a while and I let one of my tire buddies talk me into the TowMax tires...I had the same problem with the marathons...I was going to go with carlisles but he said he had problems with them. If towmax doesn't sound familiar...it didn't to me either...so far I have no complaints.

All 4 tires had 50 psi which is what it says to fill to.

Dry rot causes most blowouts on boat trailers , boat trailers rarely have overload issue .

The tire shows a break line well down in the sidewall (in the white rubber) that is typical with under-inflation and overheating. If not when it blew, then at another point in time.
This is just my personal opinion, but after building tires for 35 years, I wouldn't put a white letter tire on a trailer.

Most single axle boat trailer tires are maxed out or past their load rating.... Age and low air pressure compounds the problem... Most that add up the weight forget to add the weight of all the accessories, gas, tackle............... AND trailer weight!

    Compare the specs here...

BTW... Running Marathons you should over fill to 60 lbs air... >>> PLEASE READ SERVICE BULLETIN >>> http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires...plications.pdf
