PRI-G Fuel Conditioner

Motor: J90PLSSE
SN: 904827577

90hp Carb

Please provide an opinion of using PRI-G gas additive with this motor.

I was going to use XD100 to avoid carbon buildup. However, will this work in conjunction with XD50 and provide the same results regarding carbon buildup and provide fuel preservation.

I tried to search some info on this site, however, I did not find anything of value.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

4-stroke 90? In Year 2000? Hmmm.

Maybe It's a J90PLSSE or J90VLSSE

some of your model &/or Ser info is wrong

Is this motor on a 2001 HEWES BAYFISHER. If so it's Many be A J90VLSSE with a ser # without the 90 on the front. May have G04827577 on the mid section though.

Its a J90 carb 2000 model year. I will check the motor designation

So, is J90PLSS correct?

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

Use XD50.

If Cost Is Not A Factor, Use XD100

(We have not had Many Carbon Issues With That Engine But I'm Not Sure About Everyone Else.)

Annual Engine Tunner/Decarbing Of The Engine Plus Using XD50 Is What Would Be Our Sugjestion. But XD100 Is Better. As Far As Gas Additives (We Normally Say No Unless There Is A Specific Reason like stabilizer (2+4))

NEVER, NEVER, NEVer and Never add any of these additives to your oil tank no matter what there directions say. (I've seen what this could do & it is not pretty)

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (AquaMarineNJ)

Thanks,

So if I use XD100, annual decarb is not necessary? And 2+4 for a preservative?
If the above is correct, its what I am going to do.
XD100 in bulk here is $30. a gallon. XD50 is $18 a gallon.

My office is in Tallahassee, home in Punta Gorda. I can go 30days without getting on the water, hence, the perservative question.

Its on a Redfisher 16. Runs very well, hole shot excellent. WOT trimmed 43MPH. I think it well run well for another 15 years.

I am, however, trying to understand if there are significant gas saving running an ETEC 90. So far, reading performance reports, this does NOT seem to be the case.
Your opinion.

Thanks for the assist on the motor designation.

Well Gas Savings. Depends Of How You Use It. The Last Customer That I Repowered Call Me A Liar, He said it was better than I told him it would be.

The Other Thing You Have To Rememer is that you will be removing a 4 cyl & putting on a 3 cyl. There May and "I said Maybe" a 1-2 mile per loss in over all speed. But it is worth it.

Annual decarbing is a matter of oppinion. BUT if your changing the plugs then anyhow. Well, I would.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (AquaMarineNJ)

Well its going to cost $ 7000 to repower "net". That buys alot of gas. I will begin putting on about 100 hrs per year. The engine at this time has less than a 100 hrs.

I only run about 28 to 35mph. Speed is not important, hole shot is extremely important. Gotta get it going in 2.5 of water. The J90 does this very well. A long run for me is 60 miles. Have a 30 fuel tank. I trailer to nearest ramp that is close to the area I will fish for the day.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

Possibly 50 % better if your a normal boater. But you may not be a normal boater. (Did I say That Out Loud) Sorrrrie, If your a full throttle man this will not be the case. If your a troller, it may be better.

Example on carb Vs. DI and/or ETEC

2004 175HP Carb Twin engine Mako 25' Tow Boat.
Back to the fuel dock 2 times in a 14 hour day. Just to get through one day.

2006 150HP DI Twin engine on the same Mako 25' Tow Boat.
with the same opperater for a 14 hour day.
Fill up in the morning and have fuel left over at the end of the day.
no $$$h!!TT, the captain was amazed in the difference and wanted to know what was up with the carb engines he ran since new. (nothing)

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

Hole shot is very good, I think it was better on the boat we repowered.

((7000 net) - (engine you sold on the internet or locally)) / $4.00 per gal.= gal needed to justify cost.

factor in the Gals, fuel saving, the 3 year warranty, gals/hr. for 100hours and it may be something that you would consider.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (AquaMarineNJ)

I have conducted an extensive cost benefit analysis.

Fuel, oil. and maintenance are not enough benefit to pull the trigger.

The only potential benefit is Warranty and Resale. Both somewhat intangible. May come down to emotion.

I am targeting January for the decision, hoping for an extended warranty promotion from BRP. If this happens I will go for it. Warranty and resale will make it possible. Need a 5 to 6 year warranty.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

How about a 7 year warranty. You said January. Wait and see what the winter consumer program will be.

Emotion. Please don't include the wife. just kidding.

Resale Not Trade-In on your engine should be good.

Start listing your engine prior to getting the new one if your not able to float the difference until the old one is sold.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (AquaMarineNJ)

I checked my last quote from my local dealer. Net is $ 5,700 plus sales tax. I think he is giving me low retail for my motor.

What do you see has a fair sale price for my J90? Trade and private sale.

I can float it. How do I store it until its sold?
IM me if that is more confortable.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (rrunkel)

Trade Value depends on the dealer. We broker used engines normaly instead of taking in trades. The Customer will generally get more money for it that way.

Re-sale depends on the buyer. http://www.NADA.com is a start.

See your local dealer, the one you plan on using for service, and get that info.

You Said 7000 net before I was assuming that was just the engine your dealer gave you a price on. I have not looked at our price sheet. Nor will I quote a price, that would be unfair to other dealers in your area and we are not allowed to sell engines we do not install. My Bosses policy.

Re: PRI-G Fuel Conditioner (AquaMarineNJ)

I understand.

I previously checked the NADA. The dealer is giving me a bit better than "low retail" I think its a pretty good arrangement. And the arrangement is good through January 2007. My cost after trade is $ 5,700. + sales tax.

BTW,

Thanks for an excellent exchange of information.
