    Bunk replacement

I posted this in the restoration section but thought I might get more views here so I am double posting...I just bought an '88 Bass Cat Pantera 2. Overall the boat is sound but it does need some minor work. One of the things that is wrong is the bunks are starting to rot (one has even come off and another is close to coming off). I was planning on just getting some wood and some good carpet and replacing them myself. Is there any issues anyone foresees with doing this? Any reasons not to do a home fix?

Nope, go for it . Take the boat to the lake and unload it. Then get your measurements for the new bunks. Go back home and make up new bunks. Then go back to lake and take the boat back off. Pull trailer in parking lot and replace bunks. I have done 3 trailers this way.

    Nope.

Use stainless lag blts, let the glue dry completely before putting the boat back on, leave an uncarpeted space underneath so the wood can dry. I make and carpet the new bunks at home, go to the lake, beach the boat by the ramp, install the new bunks, go fishing. Voila!

Sweet!!! Thanks everybody. It is a hell of a lot cheaper to do it myself. I was buying carpet anyway and will have enough trim to cover the bunks so it works perfect. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't an issue. I appreciate the help.

    Re: (Bcbpantera)

Do a search and get several ppls ways if doing it. I jacked the back of the boat up and did them. No glue needed.

just finished mine yesterday, i took the boat off the trailer to do some other work...the most popular way has been take it to the lake with pre-made bunks..make a list of everything you can think of to take, your going to be dealing with rusty bolts and hardware...be sure and cut a little angle on the entrance end of the bunks...i use stainless staples underneath to secure the carpet

Also the first time you load boat on the trailer with new carpet/bunks it will be a bit tougher sometimes. That is normal and will get easier in a trip or three.
