    2002 Honda Accord

Through all this confusion of my sister's passing...my daughter's Honda is on the blink. It had a new starter put in it, and it starts OK but makes a goofy grinding noise when the bendix is disengaging....then after she drives it a while, it will start up, then just dies. I think it is a starter relay...thoughts?... HELP!!

2 problems and i doubt they are related...First i dont think that starter has a dowel to line it up...Loosen both bolts and see if you can twist it one way or another..Long shot but sometimes you can gain a little clearance on the flywheel that way...If not remove the starter and see what the flywheel looks like..The old starter could have messed up the flywheel..if not bring it back and get another

For the stalling...No check engine light? Runs fine when its running? Did you check any of the easy things like the air filter? Ive seen mice fill up an airbox like it was a competition

No check engine lights...she recently had it over-heat, replaced a radiator, all fans, alternator, etc...now this. I think it has got to be one of MANY modules that could have got fried...We will probably end up taking it to the Honda Dealer and taking it up the keister!!

Why go to a dealer??? Im sure there are plenty of techs in the area that could fix it..for about half the hourly rate

He's 100% correct.......and they have Half of the Diagnositc abilities, Half the Experience and Half of Direct knowledge to find the problem quickly. So for half of that price you pay twice as much ALLSOME

NAW......I'm sure there are some guys out there that can figure it out

But I have seen many of times that guy can't figure things out in an hour or less so they will charge 2 hours to get it looked at jsut so they don't loose any $$..............just sayin

I agree. Especially with a Honda. Their techs go out on their own quite a bit.

Any good reputable shop can help you out with this problem... Not just a dealer!

If that thing has an ignition control module that could be part of the problem. Does it start back up once the car has cooled down? If it does I would take it off and have it tested. Icm's.tend to work fine until that get warm when they are going bad. Oreillys can test them but you have to have it off the vehicle. Make sure they test it 7-8I times, it has to get warm like it would in the car.
