200 rude lower unit question ????

I replaced the lower unit on my boat. I have never done any work on an outboard before. Put the lower unit on and it overheated with 10 minutes while on the flusher in the driveway. I pulled the lower unit and checked the water pump. While re-installing the lower unit it would not go all the way up. Took it off and found that I had not put the copper water tube in the proper hole and bent up the copper tube. I straighted the copper tube to where it was round again.

I started the engine up in the flusher today and I have good water pressure (I never thought to look at the water pressure before pulling the lower unit after it overheated) But I noticed there was water coming out of the front drain hole in the front of the engine where the lower unit and center section meet. I need to know if that is normal? Does the water pump tube completely seal at the water pump housing?

You guys are great, thanks for all the help..............

Well then I guess my water pump tube is not sealing all the way in the water pump housing. I cannot see where water could get in the center section other than the copper water pump tube.

Water will come out the front and is normal, when the motor is running on the hose there will be water coming from all over.

What concerns me about this is, if the water tube was shortened when it was bent, if so, it may not seal in the pump housing properly.

When you run it on the muffs H20 comes out everywhere, if you are making good H20 pressure then you are seated into the Pump housing, that is easy to do (miss the pickup tube) you should be OK. CM

Wow 20 at Idle? Best I get is 8-10 and WFO depending on how I set the plate 18-buried on a 30 PSI gauge. You are really making good pressure ! CM

I had the boat in the water today. The water pressure was 8-10 psi at idle and pegged on plane. I had not gotten the water tube in the water pump housing. Thanks guys for the Great help.

20 PSI at idle? Not good. Check for a restriction in the P hole or a bad gauge.
