    power pro line

What has happened to power pro? I have had 50lb. broke on 5 lb. fish several times this year. Before that I had never had a fish to break off. This line in new. Any ideas?

I only use 20lb and 30lb and have NEVER had any break on me? Maybe a bad run or you had a nick you didn't see??

no issues here at all, but to be fair I never have issues with my suffix either. I would check your guides. Run a Q-tip through them and see if any cotton sticks to them maybe?

What Chris said. Check your guides, I was breaking it on every hookset a few years ago. Come to find out one of my guides had a chip in it and was cutting the line.

    Same rod?

    Different rods?

I've never had a problem with that , your line is getting nicked or frayed.

    Re: power pro line (cougarcat22)

I've been breaking 30lb power pro lately and couldn't figure why... I switched hooks and it seems to be the problem. Owner hooks are stout, but I think the eye will cut the line when the knot slips in there.

    Are you throwing tungsten weights.
I have had it break when throwing tungsten weights. Alot of people claim their weights are polished smooth.

    Re: power pro line (flippin-idiot)

I used it last week on five different rods and on all of them the only way I could break off when hung up was to wrap the line around my arm, I had a sweatshirt on so it didn't hurt my arm, but that stuff was very hard to break, and most of the time it straightened out the hook instead of breaking. No problems here at all, but this was also brand new line.

I have gotten a bad spool before. Take it back to the store. That's what I did and haven't had a problem with it since.

Flip, you sure it's not those jackfish cutting your line down on Old Saline.

    Re: power pro line (Bankermike)

Used power pro for years, no problems, just bought a new spool of 30lb and sbapped off a spinner bait and a buzz bait within 15 casts, no back lashes anything, guides on rods are fine. Getting ready to go to amistad so switched to suffix 832, didnt want to take any chances, maybe a bad spool

    Re: power pro line (SOL)

Power pro has whip issues. Sometimes depending on good spool or bad the line will break on casts. It breaks right at the top of the rod. At first thought it might be a guide issue but same thing no matter what rod and reel I put it on. Its a known problem. Usually the heavier stuff 50lb and above there is are fewer problems.

    Shimano Bought it..
Ive been using power for 15 years or so since they were innovative textiles..
Great line and never had ANY issues with it..
Could be a bad spool or as they were saying guide issue on the rod..

    Re: power pro line (flippin-idiot)

I stopped using it cause I had so many break off, even on the 65. Been using SPIDERWIRE STEALTH and BPS Premium EXEL Braid with no issues.

    Re: power pro line (250bassFL)

only time I ever had an issue was when I was using a red hook, and the inside of the hook eye was "sharp" from when the hook was dipped or sprayed, and it was cutting the line.. threw away htose hooks and haven't had a problem since then.
