    $50 light bulbs.

Now the winning bulb is on the market.

    The price is $50.

Retailers said the bulb, made by Philips, is likely to be too pricey to have broad appeal. Similar LED bulbs are less than half the cost.

“I don’t want to say it’s exorbitant, but if a customer is only looking at the price, they could come to that conclusion,” said Brad Paulsen, merchant for the light-bulb category at Home Depot, the largest U.S. seller of light bulbs. “This is a Cadillac product, and that’s why you have a premium on it.”</td></tr></table>

Ontario Hydro did an assesment of my store for me for the lights. They recommended some nice expensive lights like that. They said I could save over $2800.00 per year in my store by using them. I asked them if they give me a cheque every month or once a year as my hydro usage was not even $2000.00 a year already?

the only GREEN going on with the green movement is the govt giving Billions of Greenbacks to these companies ... most going bankrupt. And also alot of companies charging us alot of GREEN for their stuff. Imagine that!

I agree, but I don't really look at this bulb as being subsidized. The company used their own money an won a contest. I'm sure there were losers who invested money in contest and didn't get squat. Hopefully, the technology gained from the losers will be able to help them recoup some of the investment, or even make a profit.

Just like any other government games, sometimes the real winners don't come out on top.

I'll wait a few years for the price to come down.

Look at all the technology that the US invents...then it gets produced in China or other country. Take the solar panels...we can't make em as cheap as they can and have them shipped here. Until the US gets a fair trade balance and gets China to make their currency on an even playing field, it is all a mute point. We will continue to create it and others will produce it.

Re: $50 light bulbs. (Alan S)

In some limited justification, we have 6 canned r-40 lights over our kitchen island. They kept the room hot, and it seemed as if I had to replace one every few months. After years of frustration, I changed over to the LED R-40 bulbs ($65 each! ) But I have seen a significant decrease in the heat of the room and $50-100 decreases in my monthly electrical bill as well. If tbese things are responsible for 1/2 of those monthly savings, then they will be worth it. Also I no longer have to keep buying a new bulb every month. this is not (yet) an endorsement, but an update to a post I made 6 months ago in frustration over the cost of these things.

Your saying that just buy changing the light bulbs over your kitchen island, you saved $50 to $100 dollars on your electric bill. I call BS on that unless you kept them on continuously which is pretty dumb on your part.
