    alarm problems

    Hey guys I have a loud horn soon as i turn the key , first i thought overheating but the boat hasnt been run in a while so it cant be over heating ,the alarm goes on soon as i turn the key , could i just have a bad alarm , its on a 1989 johnson gt 150

    The alarm should sound as soon as you turn the key on it tells you the alarm system is functional.

    You could have a bad alarm...

    It is normal to get a softer, short "chirp" from the horn each time you turn the key to the run position, but the horn should not be loud and continuous when you turn the key and the engine is cold.

    You can make a quick check of the tan wires coming off the temperature switches in the cylinder heads to be sure they are not worn, pinched, chaffed, or otherwise getting a direct ground to the engine block. Follow the wires all the way from the switches to where they disappear into the wiring harness, then you will have to either just try by replacing the horn yourself with the new 3-wire horn kit (part no. 585992 $65.00) or have a technician trace down the problem for you.

    thanks alot boss thats what i needed to know the alarm was why i took it to the shop , now that i have got her back she is still doing the same thing i know i will take her back
