    V8 Fuel Injection Retrofit

Anybody here have any experience with retrofitting an old V8 engine with fuel injection? I have a 1970 International 345 and I am about fed up with the 2 barrel Holly carb on this thing.

Carb repair / rebuilding is a lost art but I never had it to lose.

Check out Affordable Fuel Injection. I've used their stuff several times, great tech support, but you won't need it. Plus theirs is Flex Fuel system.
The AFI TBI is on my 485+ hp Jeep rock buggy, I run pure alcohol in summer & purple gas in winter. You can save a lot of money by using some used parts off of a Chevy truck, since mine was a new build from ground up I went with the complete kit.

You might want to talk to these guys if you're serious about fuel injecting that ol' IH
http://www.affordable-fuel-inj....html My brother-in-law put one of their kits on an old Bronco and that thing is awesome. They have a kit for the IH, but it'll probably run around a grand by the time it's all said and done. You could always just give the truck to me and be done with it

Can't you go to Auto Whatever and buy a reman or new carb for it. I am sure that would be cheaper than installing a fuel injection/throttle body set-up.

Carbs are simple. If the Holley is trouble, see if you can find an Edelbrock that will fit. They are usually a little easier to adjust.

He's probably needing fuel injection for numerous reasons, that unless you are a off-roader you wouldn't understand. He can go from the CO mountains to AZ desert with no altitude issues. No more crappy chokes on cold mornings. Running engine at crazy off camber/incline/decline angles. The list is endless.

Yes, you can put springs on the needles & floats, but it's just not the same. Plus the aforementioned AFI stuff will allow him to take advantage of E85. Which, will allow the motor to run cooler while idling around the woods, rocks, and desert. He'll also be able to diagnose engine issues with a GM scan tool, for no brainer fix it right the first time.

FI is still limited to about a 45 deg incline UNLESS the fuel tank is 100% full. You may not have to worry about a carb float, but you still have to worry about the fuel pickup uncovering in the tank.

For inclines and off camber situations, propane is best...no liquid level to worry about

My buddy converted a Chevy 350 from a Quadrajet carb over to a Holley fuel injection system.

Pretty sure he bought the Holley kit and then used a complete wire harness from Painless Wiring. It was pretty much a plug and play system. He built a CJ7 into a rock crawler from the frame up.

You run an inline and in-tank pump, with a 1ltr sump can in between. Do I have teach you guys everything.

    Propane rigs kick @ss too.
A friends Bronco, has a grill on the tailgate, for those chill & grill trail moments.

still don't do ya any good when the fuel level in the tank uncovers the pickup OR pump......been there done that

if so you have the wrong the tank, wrong baffles, not foam filled, you can't run it on complete empty.

All depends on the size and shape of the tank.

Mine was a 45 gal tank, that would suck air on a 45 deg side hill below 30 gals

No I didn't put foam in it, baffles only delay the loss of fuel, they do not stop it, and geometrically, a sump would not have helped but to ~ 25 gals, still more than 1/2 tank required to not suck air.

Tank shape and how it's mounted plays a bigger factor than tank size

Re: V8 Fuel Injection Retrofit (Painter1)

Thanks for the point-in-the-right-direction. I followed up and was able to talk to several folks who sell and have used the system. Bottom line consensus is that FI kits work well for more popular models (GM - Jeep) but not so much for IH.

There just has not been the engineering and programming mapped out for the IH because of the low demand. I am not running off-road though.

Plus, I just finished pulling the tanks, boiling out and running new lines. Doing that again would be a drag. I did find an IH shop in California that has had success with "pre-tuning" a new Holley 2300 so it should bolt on and go.
