175 Fastrike fuel problem....help...

Have a 97 Mod# J175GLEUC. Gets on plane and in about 30 sec the rpms drop and the check engine light goes on. Have new plugs and wires, decarboned and in pretty good shape. Reprime bulb and it will run under 2000 rpms to make it back to the ramp. Fuel pickups are good,filter is clean. Is there a fix anyone knows of? Diaphram? VRO? arrgghh.....

Also..Anyone know of a recall or update on the VRO for this model?

Sounds like you have a fuel restriction, get a in line vacuum guage and a clear hose, the vacuum should be around 1.5 at idle and there should be no air bubbles in the clear hose.

I have the same enigne and have just experienced the same problem as you described.

Did you install a new O ring in the filter when you checked it? The old one maybe crushed.

Turned out it was the VRO pump. Ouch!! $550

the pump by itself is about $290, was there a lot of on-the-water test time for the remaining $250?

My tech said he thought it was the pump as well. Looks like an easy job so I think I'll try to save a few $$ and install it myself. Anyone know of any tricky things to watch out for when putting this on?

Make sure you prime the oil line well before you slip it on. No air in the line.
